Gazeley. 1299. Grant from William Sperling of Needham Street (Nedham) to John Fiss and Sarra his wife, for a certain sum of money, of an acre of arable land called "le Doune" in the fields of Higham (Heyham), of which half an acre lies between the land late of Alan (the Reaper) 'Messor' and that of John Aleyn abutting on 'le Feldwoye' [sic] and on the land of the abbot of St Osilth; and the other half acre between the lands of Ralph le Neweman and Richard Proudfot. Dated at Gazeley (Gaysle) on Friday (9 Oct) after the feast of St Faith Virgin 27 Edward I (1299). Witnesses. Thomas Passelewe, Walter le Mercer, Alexander Baston, Walter de la Kersonere, William Sparke, Thomas son of 'Fabr', Henry le Beusler, Richard (the Cowherd) 'Vaccario', Roger the clerk, and others. The seal is wanting.
