Clapcote. William Badecok of W⟨allingford⟩ grants to Walter Crypse a toft with arable land adjacent, lying between the said Walter’s land on the north, and the garden which belonged to Sir William de Bereford by Wallingford castle on the south, in the village of C⟨lapcote⟩ , reaching from the high road on the west to the barbican of the castle on the east. It is 28 feet wide by the road, and 68 feet by the barbican; length 55 and 58 feet. Witnesses: Richard de Louches : Gilbert du char , Thomas Aleyn , Simon Kenelm , Nicholas le coupere . Letters patent of King Edward III, dated at York, 23 Jan., the 6th of his reign, giving licence to Richard de Louches - to grant a messuage, 13 1/2 acres of land, and one acre of meadow in Clopcote to the prior and convent of Wallingford, for one chaplain to celebrate in the said priory each day for his soul and the souls of Wm. Heyron and Walter de Pulton , and the ancestors of the said Richard.

Convention dated the Saturday in the feast of St. Hilary, 9 Ed. III, by which the prior and convent of Wallingford demise to John Bate, junior, of Milton , one toft lying in the parish of Holy Trinity, Wallingford, for twenty years, paying annually for the same 2s. [Mutilated.]

John son of Thomas of Berewyk of W⟨allingford⟩ , junior, grants to John of Berewyk, his elder brother, two granges, a well, and a curtilage in the parish of Holy Trinity, between the principal tenement late of Thomas of B., on the east, in S. Mary the Greater , and the garden of Richard le Louches on the west, reaching Curteyslane [on the north], and the tenement late of Robert de Ossyndene and the tenement of Alice, widow of ... St. Mary the Greater, Wallingford. William Badecok of W⟨allingford⟩ grants to John Cary of W⟨allingford⟩ and Joan his wife a tenement, which he had of the gift of Thomas son and heir of Thomas of Berewyk , in S. Mary the Greater, between the messuage of Agnes widow of John atte Dene on the south, and that of Robert Boty on the north, reaching the highway on the west above the messuage of the said R. B. Indenture witnessing that, although Walter Cirpsse of Wallingford has infeoffed William Cornwaille of the same place with one acre of meadow with appurtenances in Clopcote, lying in a common meadow called 'le Northmede,' as appears in a certain charter then made and deposited by consent of the parties in the hands of Thomas Sturbourn , by which he has received full seisin, nevertheless the same William is willing and grants for himself and his heirs, that if the said Walter and his heirs pay to him or his attorney in Wallingford 4 marks, then the said charter of feoffment to be void. Richard Oterbourne of Clopcote quit-claims to John atte Rysshe of Wallingford all his right in 3 acres of arable land lying in the field of Clopcote. Dated at Wallingford the Wednesday next after the feast of St. Matthew the apostle, 20 Ed. III.

William Heron, prior of Wallingford , grants to William Basing, tailor, a tenement with a curtilage within the borough of Wallingford, for four years, at an annual rent of 2s. 6d. Dated at Wallingford the Sunday next after the feast of the Conception of the B.V.M., 20 Ed. III.

Indenture by which Stephen Cryps, chaplain, grants to John Broun, porter, Alice his wife, and John son of Henry of Stapleford , a tenement in All Saints’, and two acres of land in C⟨lapcote⟩ , in Medforlond, for their lives, reserving to himself a plot containing a well, from which his father Walter Cryps used to procure free stone. Rent 6/-. They have granted to the said Stephen a solar with free entry and exit at reasonable hours (temporibus opportunis). A certificate of John de Wyly, rector of Semelegh, Salisbury diocese, and commissary of the bishop of Salisbury , that he has audited the account of Richard Knight, sacrist of the priory of Wallingford , who served the church of the Holy Trinity, Wallingford, during a vacancy from Michaelmas 1349 to the date of this charter, and a sum of 25s. 6 3/4d. is due, which is allowed to him for his services. Dated at Wallingford in the vigil of All Saints, 1355.
