Indenture made 11 September, 13 James I (1615), by which John Wentworth of Somerleyton (Somerleton) grants to William Southwell of Darsham the office of steward, coroner, and clerk of the market within the liberties of .... ,

Somerleyton. William Stanton of Herringfleet (Herringfleete), yeoman, quit-claims to sir John Wentworth, kt., lord of the manor of Somerleyton (Somerleton), all his right in lands in the said manor. Dated 10 January, 1629.

An acknowledgment that Lambart Cook has received of John Wentworth of Somerleyton (Somerleton), esq., £500, which sum the said John was bound for. [Temp. Charles I.] [Mutilated.]

SOUTHWOLD. Anthony Allen of Southwold, gent., sells to his son Robert Allen all his goods and chattels of every kind as well in Southwold as elsewhere in England. Dated 4 Feb., 44 Elizabeth (1602).

William de la Pole, marquis and earl of Suffolk and of Pembroke, grants to Adrian Spierins, clerk, in consideration of his work certain mines of gold and silver and other metals, all the "testewerke, dedewerke, afterwasshe and slagges" that come from the mines, for a term of 16 years without any payment, and also an annuity of £20 until he be preferred to a stately benefice of holy church fitting his degree. Dated 3 Feb., 26 Hen. VI (1448). [With autograph signature.]

Appointment by James, earl of Suffolk, lord lieutenant of the counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire (Cambridge), of Thomas Mighells , gent., as lieutenant of a company of horse raised in the county of Suffolk. Dated 29 May, 1680.

Declaration by several clergy, the parson of Beccles (Becclys), Edmund Garneys, priest, Robert Grene, priest, Adam Fraunceys, priest, and others that certain evidence in a box under a part of their seals, relating to Robert Boys of Blundeston (Blunston) and Joan his wife, are true and credible. Dated 30 March, 2 Rich. III (1485). [Mutilated.]

Indenture made 2 August, 28 Hen. VIII (1536), between John Couper of Carlton Colville (Carleton Colvyle) and Alys his wife of the one part, and John Jettor of Lowestoft (Lowystoft) of the other part, witnesseth that the said John and Alys sell to him all their messuages, lands, and tenements in Carlton Colville (Carleton Colvyle). [Much effaced.]

Indenture (on paper) dated 20 June, 23 Elizabeth (1581), by which John Jernegon of Somerleyton, esq., demised to George Hervy of Oulton his "heathe doole" in the town of Carlton Colville (Carleton Colvyle) for 21 years, at an annual rent of 2s. Signed.

Memorandum that sir Edmund Themylthorpe of Tunswod, kt., has received of Francis Claxtone of Wissett (Wysset), gent. £500 for the purchase of certain lands &c. in Carlton Colville (Carleton Colvyle), as mentioned in a pair of indentures dated 25 January, 2 James I (1605). Indenture dated 16 October, 4 James I (1606), by which Francis Claxton of Wissett (Wysset, co. Suffolk), gent., in consideration of the receipt of £500, sells to Nicholas Battely the younger, of Rumburgh (Romburgh, co. Suffolk), yeoman, lands, tenements, &c. in Carlton Colville (Carleton Colvile).

Carlton Colville (CARLTON COLVILE), Barsham (BARSHAM), Ilketshall St Andrew (ILKETTISHALL, ST. ANDREW), and Lowestoft (LOWESTOFT). Indenture made 10 October, 1626, by which Robert London of Wheatacre (Whetacre) and Edmund Smith of Gillingham are to have a fine levied by John Codd and Mary his wife and Henry Coppinger and Sarah his wife and Richard Burnell for conveying certain messuages and lands in the above villages to them.

CHELMONDESTON. Indenture made 31 March, 41 Elizabeth (1599), between Robert Mighell of Chelmondiston (Chelmondeston, Suffolk), and Robert Cundy of .... by which the said Robert Mighell leases to Robert Cundy [or Curdy] a marsh and certain closes ... [Partly effaced.]

Indenture made 16 August, 1 Mary, between sir Robert Crane of Chilton, esq., of the one part, and John Coolie , gent., of the second part, witnesseth that the said Robert grants to the said John certain lands in Chilton aforesaid. [Slightly mutilated, and in part effaced.]

CULPHO and TUDNAM. Indenture made 20 December, 1572, 15 Elizabeth, by which Robert King of Ipswich (Ipswick), in consideration of a marriage between himself and Anne Withepoll and 200 marks, covenants with Edmund Withepoll of Ipswich (Ipswick) to assure to the said Anne £20 annually from lands in Culpho (Culphoe) and Tuddenham St Martin (Tudnam), co. Suff.

The will of John Doyle of Hadleigh (Hadlegh, co. Suffolk), gent., made 15 August, 1483.

Indenture by which Robert Rolfe of Grey's Inne, Middlesex, gent., son and heir of Roger Rolfe of Hadleigh (Hadley), deceased, approves and ratifies to Thomas Atkinson of Hadleigh (Hadley) all right and title to a capital mansion, &c. in Hadleigh (Hadley), which the said Thomas purchased of him and Edward Colman of Great Waldingfield. ICKLINGHAM. Indenture between king Henry VIII and George Rowse reciting an indenture dated 18 October, 30 Hen. VIII (1538), from the abbot and convent of Bury St. Edmund, of a lease of the manor of Icklingham with members (Iklyngham), co. Suffolk, for 60 years, at an annual rent of £24, which said lease is surrendered, and another, by the present indenture, granted for 21 years at the same rent. Dated 12 December, 31 Hen. VIII (1539). [With seal of Augmentation Office, broken.]

Indenture made 16 July, 4 Elizabeth (1562), reciting the bequest of Henry Tooley, and the surrender to the mayor and corporation of Ipswich, of the lands, &c. given for the foundation of an hospital at Ipswich. [3.5 sheets; mutilated.]

KESSINGLAND. Will of John Gudde of Kessingland (Kessynlond), 7 Nov. 1503.

MENDHAM. Indenture between Edmund Jetterre of Lowestoft, gent., and John Flower of Mendham, yeoman, by which the former, for the sum of six (?) score pounds, sells to the latter lands in Mendham and other places. Dated last day of Febr., 3 Eliz.
