Bond from John Aumener of Needham Street (Nedham) to Thomas Nichole of the same, undertaking for himself and his wife Joan, to pay to Thomas 40 shillings in the event of his being disppossessed, by writ at the plea of the said Joan, of 2.5 acres of land, wherewith John has enfeoffed him. Dated, at Needham Street (Nedham) on Friday [18 Sept.] after the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 12 Ed. III [1338]

Needham Street (Needham-Street). 1348. Release from Margery Andrew of Moulton (Multone), to Thomas Nichole of Nedham, of her right in half an acre of land lying in Nedham, Benethen, Nedham Melne, next to the copyhold of Dom. William Talmache, and abutting on the common heath. Dated at Nedham on Saturday, the feast of the Holy Innocents, 22 Ed. III [28 Dec. 1348] Witnesses: John Priour, Walter Maschal, John le Smyth, Alexander Sperlyng, John Fyche, and others. The seal is wanting.

Needham Street (Needham-Street). 1359 . Grant from Alexander Wlphale, to William atte Fen of Needham Street (Nedham), and Agnes his wife, of 4 acres of arable land in the fields of Nedham and Kentford (Kenteforde), of which one acre lies next to the land of Dom. William of Claptone, with one end abutting on the land of Robert Berkelowe; two acres lie at Walkerescroftes next to the land of Dom. William Talemache, with one end abutting on 'le Waterweye'; and one acre lies in the same field next to the land of Alexander Sperlynge, also abutting on 'le Waterweye'. Dated, at Needham Street (Nedham) on Sunday before the feast of St Martin, Bishop and Confessor, 22 Ed. Release from John Fyche of Higham (Heiham by Gaisle), to Agnes, relict of Thomas Nichole of Needham Street (Nedham by Gaislee) , Alexander Wlfhale, John Wlfale, John Gen and Henry Basse, of his right in the lands and tenements formerly held by Thomas Nichole. Dated at Needham Street (Nedham) on Sunday before the feast of the Exaltation of the holy Cross, 35 Edw. III [12 Sept., 1361]

Needham Street (Needham-Street). 1385. Release from William Farewelle, parson of Great and Little Chesterford (Chesterforde [Essex]), Richard Smythe, parson of Suthrleye [Lincoln], William Parkere, parson of the church of Llanwenarth (Llanwaynarde [Monmouth]), and John Freberne of Fulbourn (Fulburne [Cambridge]), jun., to Thomas Persone of Nedham, and Margaret his wife, of all lands, tenements, etc. claimed by the said grantors in Needham Street (Nedham), Kentford (Kenteforde), and Higham (Heigham), which they had from Thomas of Heigham, and which once belonged to William [mutilation] Dated at Needham Street (Nedham) on Monday the feast of St Edmund, King, 9 Ric. II [20 Nov., 1385] Witnesses: Robert Warner, Geoffrey Chapman, Richard Ilgere, John Haumener, Geoffrey Mellere, and others. Endorsed: Carta facta Thome Baldoke. The seal is wanting. Mutilated.

Otley. 1416. Final agreement, between William Piers of Otley (Ottele), plaintiff, and John Potter of Blakesley (Blakesle co. Northampton), and Margaret his wife, deforciants, by which the latter cede to the former, 2 tofts, 50 acres of land, 2 acres of wood, and 36 shillings rent, in Helmingham (Helmyngham), Cretingham (Gretyngham), Brandeston (Braunston), Framsden (Frammesdene), and Monewden (Mondene), for 40 marks of silver. Completed within a month of Easter, 4 Hen. V [19 April, 1416] before Norton J.C.P.

Stanstead. 1396-1397. Final agreement between John Pylkyngtone, 'chiualer', and Margaret his wife, plaintiffs, and Ralph Rokyngham, deforciant, by which the latter grants to the former the reversion of the manor of Stanstead (Stanstede), held in life by Edward Noon, 'chiualer', and Isabel his wife, for 100 marks of silver. Completed on the octave [9 Feb] of the Purification of the B.[V.]M. 20 [Ric. II] before Thirnynge J.C.P. [1396-1397]

Stonham Aspal (Stonham Aspall). 1409. Final agreement between Edmund Throp, kt., and Joan his wife, plaintiffs, and John Spenser and Katherine his wife, deforciants, by which teh latter cede to the former the manor of Aspall Stonham (Stonham Aspalle, otherwise known as Stonham Antegayn), and the advowson of Stonham Antegayn, for 200 marks of silver. Completed within a month of Easter, 10 H[enry IV] [7 April, 1409] before Thrinyng J.C.P.

Aldeburgh, Hazlewood (Haselwood). 1331. Fine and recovery by which John Frere conveys to Clemeneia of Londham a messuage, 32 acres of land and 3.5 acres of meadow with appurtenances, in Aldeburgh and Haselwode, to be held by the said John of the said Clemeneia, for life, and after the death of the said John to revert to the said Clemeneia and her heirs, rendering yearly a rose on St John the Baptists day. Geoffrey of Corton appearing for Clemenia and Walter of Bliford for John on the quindene of the Holy Trinity. Suffolk, within 3 weeks of Easter 5 [Ed III] [April 1331]

Battisford. 1318. Grant from Philip de Columbariis (abbot), to the bishop and clergy of Norwich of property in Batisford. Witnesses: Walter of Norwich, John de Mutford, Oliuer de Ingham, Thomas La(?) , Robert de Asphal, Roger de Folcone, William de Rungetone, knts., Giles de Wachesham, Thomas de Neutone, John de Ingham, John de (?), Richard Lien, John Hardheued and others. Dated at Westminster on Saturday [10 June] after the feast of St Edmund, Archbishop and Confessor, 11 Ed. II [1318] The seal is wanting.

Blundeston. 1510. Extract from court roll (faded and mutilated) at the first court of Sir William Walgraue held … on Wednesday 2 Hen. VIII, the homage present that Geoffrey Chaundeler died on his bed and they have paid … to the court by Robert Bekerton in presence of Miles Keryche from lands in Blundeston late of Geoffrey Chaundeler next to the land of Philip Calthorpe, knt. on the E… remainder to Margaret wife of …, then to Robert Starys(?) and William … [Mentioning John Chaundeler 'his father' … 'held in the court on Tuesday the feast of the translation of St Edward 22 Hen. VII [1507?]]. Dated 2 Hen. VIII [1510].

Lound. 1277. Grant (faded) from Thomas [Cole?] and Alice his wife to John Mayn of Lound (Lund), [of land(?)] near that of Sir Geoffrey Wyth on the East and the royal way on the west … Witnesses … le Coke, Henry de Colton, and others. Dated at Lound (Lund), 5 Ed. [I?] {c. 1277?] The seals are wanting.

Mettingham. 1432. Licence, dated at Framlingham (Framlyngham) on the feast of St John the Baptist 22 Hen. VI [1443-1444] from John Duke of Norffolk, Earl Marshal, and Earl of Notingham, Marshal of England, lord of Moubray, Segraue and Gowere, to Robert Wylinghby [in endorsement, Willoughby], lord of Eresby and Margaret Grene, gentilwoman, living at Mettingham (Metyngham) [in endorsement Mettingham], to grant a messuage, 46 acres of land, 4 acres of meadow, 3 acres of pasture 6s. 8d. of rent, etc., formerly belonging to John Mowe and later to William Blobbere of Ilketshall St Margaret (Ilketishale St Margaret, Suffolk), held of the lordship of Bungey [Bungay] at 13s. 4d. rent, to Roger Bonbrygge, master or warden, and the members of the College of St Mary of Metyngham. Witnesses: John de Heuenyngham, kt., John Hoptone, Thomas Brews, esquires, John Heydone, Reginald Rous, and others. Signed Mr. Norff. The seal is wanting.

Barnby, North Cove, Worlingham (Warlingham). 1332. Fine and recovery by which Thomas of Sarnanton and Cecily his wife, and Roger Fitz Thomas of Sarnanton and Katherine his wife, convey to William of Wathe, their right in amessuage, a mill, 30 acres of land, 1 acre of meadow, 3 acres of turf, a rent of 2s., and 0.5 acre of …, with appurtenances, in North Coue, Barnby (Barneby), Great Wirlyngham, and Little Wirlyngham, for 20 marks of silver; Geoffrey of Carton appearing for William and Edmund Man of Mulf[ord] for Thomas, Cecily, Roger, and Katherine, on the octave of St Hillary. Stanton (Stanton etc), Flokton (? Flowton). 1438. Fine and recovery by which Bartholomew Bretenham and Cristina his wife convey to John Coke and Ralph Wyreham their right in a messuage, 140 acres of land, 6 acres of meadow, 20 acres of pasture, 10 acres of wood, and a rent of 4s. 6d, with appurtenances in Stentoun and Floktoun, to be held of the said John and Ralph by the said Bartholomew and Cristina for life, rendering yearly a roseö with remainder to the said John and Ralph, and the heirs of John. Suffolk, the morrow of the ascension, 16 Hen. VI [23 May 1438]

Great Thurlow, Little Thurlow, Great Bradley, Little Bradley, Great Wratting. 1534. Writ from Henry VIII to the sheriff of Suffolk directing him to secure the observance by William Turnor of covenants made with Ann Bladwelle, widow, William Drury, knt., Robert Drury, esq., George Colte, esq., Bartholomew Brokysby, esq., Henry Meyer, Thomas Meyer, and Thomas Adde, concerning 2 messuages, 60 acres of land, 8 acres of meadow, 20 acres of pasture, and 24 acres of wood, with appurtenances in Little Thirlowe, Great Thirlowe, Great Bradley, Little Bradley, and Great Wrattyng, on pain of a summons before the Justices at Westminster. 6s. 8d. paid into the Hanaper. Glemsford. 1585. Francis Bastarde, gent. grants William Allen of Glemsford (Glemsforde, co. Suffolk, yeoman), residue of twenty-year lease of mannor of Glemsford (Glemsforde), granted 19 June 12 Elizabeth by Richard Coxe, deceased, then bishop of Ely. Faded and partly illegible. Seal is missing, so is the signature.

Wickham Market. 1581-1582. Grant by Queen Elizabeth to Sir Robert Wyngfelde of privilege of holding a weekly market, on Tuesdays and 3 fairs annually on the vigil, feast and morrow of St Mathias, St Mark, and SS. Simon and Jude.

Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmunds). 1568. An inspeximus under seal of Queen Elizabeth, of the charters of St Edmunds Abbey, Bury [St Edmunds, co. Suffolk], undertaken on the petition of Nicholas Barbon(?), rehearsing charters of Canute - Edward the Confessor (in A.S.) - Henry I - Richard I - John - Edward I - Edward III - Richard II - Henry IV. Signed by Osborne. Endorsed as enrolled 16 March 36 Eliz. by John Hesberd. Seal is missing.

Rushmere St Andrew (Rushmere). 1667-1668 . Bond by Edward Salter, of Rushmere St Andrew (Rushmer, Suffolk), gent. to Richard Phillips, of Ipswich (Ipswich [Gipp'o]), grocer, of a bond in £1500, for payment of £795 on Jan. 14, 1668-1669. Witnesses: Francis Colman, George Salter, Francis Harrison, Thomas Salter.

Bury St Edmunds. 1606. Receipt from Hemye Wright, of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St Edmond, Suffolk), gent., to Dame Elizabeth Kytson, Sir John Hobart, Edmund Bacon, esq., James Artys and John Mallowes (executrix and trustees), of the receipt for £102.10, owing to him under bond, by the late Sir Thomas Kytson, of Hengrave (Hengrave, Suffolk). Before his death he had conveyed the manors of Durweston and Knighton (Knighton in Dorset) to the four trustees above to be sold according to the terms of his will and the direction of his executrix. They were sold to Sir Edward Coke, chief justice of the common pleas.

Bury St Edmunds. 1398. Pope Boniface IX, indult at the petition of King Richard II and the abbot and convent of Bury St Edmunds, to elect their own abbot and administer the monastery without other confirmation as if their abbot had been elected in the customary manner, etc. (This to avoid the perils and expenses of the journey to Rome). Seal lost.
