Daventry, The Mills. Walter fitz-Robert grants to D⟨aventry⟩ , for the safety of his soul, and that of Matilda de Buhun his wife, the mill which William of Drayton had wrongfully erected by his house. At his petition the monks have granted the mill to William and his heirs for 12d. a year. William and his son have sworn ‘super textum ecclesie’ that they will not allow corn of the grantor or of any one else in the vill to be brought to the mill, except corn necessary to his own house, nor will they bring to the mill water other than that of S. Etheldrede’s well. If they break this agreement the mill shall be razed. Letters patent of P[aul] abbot of Leicester , S[ilvester] prior of Kinelegurd , and Master Henry de Eston , reciting a letter of pope Innocent III ordering them to hear the dispute between J. priest, and the monks of D⟨aventry⟩ who hindered his presentation to the church of Northnorton (Given at Rome 26 May. a° 1.), announcing that James has surrendered his claim and that the monks will give him 5 marks 5/- for his expenses. Oxford, St. Peter-in-the-East Robert Distaff grants to Ralph son of Nigel a house between the land of Simon son of John and that of Nicholas Wistel. Hungerford Pope Eugenius III to the Prior and Canons of St. Frideswide. Bull confirming an agreement between the Abbot and Monks of Bec and the Prior and Canons of St. Frideswide, the latter ceding to the former the Church of Beaumont, and the former to the latter the vill of Edington and certain tithes. ⟨1147, May 27⟩. Richard of Grimescote grants to St. L⟨eonard’s⟩ , in free alms, a croft near the hedge belonging to the Hospital (sepes infirmorum) ’and one acre’ lying over Sugkewrche in Hafdelond above the acre held from the Hospital in lancetagium (infirmorum lancet’). Ardley [Oxon.]. William fitz-Gerard grants to Godfrey de Belefosse for his homage and service two crofts in Ardlega called Wdecrofte. Rent: 12d., scutage 3d. Peter fitz-Grent gives the advowson of Karelton, with two bovates of land in K⟨arelton⟩ , and two bovates of land in Lotheriesdene with tofts (tochtis) and with common rights (‘et cum communitate ville’) in wood and plain, to S. Mary’s Bochelton, in free, for the soul of Everard his grandfather, &c.
