BRAMLEY and HEDINGLEY. Letters patent of Queen Elizabeth , dated at Westminster, 1 April, 34 of her reign, granting to John Savile and Thomas Hynchclyffe for 13s. 4d. a licence of alienation of 23 acres of certain lands in Bramley and Hedingley to Robert Walshe and Robert Crowther . [Mutilated.]

BRAMLEY. Letters patent of King James I, dated at Westminster, 1 April, 21 of his reign, granting for 10s. to Henry Musgrave and Margaret Askwith, widow, a licence of alienation of certain messuages and lands lying in Bramley, to James Sale, sen., James Sale, jun., Agnes Lister, widow, and John Lister her son.

HOLDEN. Letters patent of Queen Elizabeth , dated at Westminster 22 May, 27th year of her reign, granting to John Gate of Holden the manor house of Holden, with houses and lands in Howden &c., for the term of years unexpired of a lease made by Richard, bp. of Durham , 13 July last, to the crown of the said premises for 90 years, paying annually £34 0s. 8d.

ALBERSTON. Sir Ed. Hastyngs, kt., lord de Hastyngs, (after reciting the grant of William, lord de Hastyngs, his father, for the foundation of a chantry within St. George's, Windsor, of an annual rent charge of £20, which is only valued at £18 5s.), grants to Geoffrey Symeon, the dean, and the canons of St. George's, Windsor, a rent-charge of 35s. on his manor of Alberston, Yorkshire, to complete the said sum of £20 granted by his father. Dated 15 December, 20 Hen. VII. (See MS. Ch. Yorks. 274).

Jordan, son of John de la Pomeraye , grants to John, son of Nicholas de Osgoteby , and his heirs, a certain assart in Osgoteby which is called 'Arenbrandridding', which the said Nicholas formerly held of Jordan's father, John; also he grants to the said John 12 pence rents, to hold of the prior and convent of Drax by the service of one rose annually, at the great altar of B. Nicholas. (c. 1270-80.)

PONTEFRACT. Letters patent of King Charles I, dated at Canbury 21 July, 4 of his reign, creating sir John Savill, kt., baron Savill of Pomfret in the county of York. Illuminated borders.

Indenture made 12 Jan., 1603, by which Mathew ⟨Hutton⟩ , archbishop of York , leases to Edward Croft of the city of York a messuage or tenement in the flesh shambles in the city of York, for 21 years, at the yearly rent of 13/4d.

Charter dated 5 April, 1375, reciting that sir William de Atoun the father, in the presence of the sire de Percy , challenged sir Robert de Boneton on account of the arms he bore, namely, Or, on a cross sable five bullocks' heads argent, which matter after long controversy, was submitted to the judgement of the sire de Percy, who after deliberation adjudged the arms to belong to William de Aton , who thereupon grants the same to Robert de Boneton and his heirs for ever. Letters patent dated at Walden, 1 September, 35 Hen. VIII, granting in consideration of a sum of 21s. a licence of alienation to Richard Andrewes, gent. and William Romsden, of Longley, yeoman for property in Wakefeld, formerly belonging to the monastery of Monkebretton, to Richard Fymone, mercer.

YOKEFLETE, BROMPTON, WESTOWE, and RILLYNGTON. Letters patent of Q. Elizabeth, dated at Gorambury, 20 Jan., 15 of her reign, reciting a grant to sir John Foster, kt., of certain lands and tenements in Little Broughton in co. York, bearing date 12 April, 10 of her reign, for 40 years, parcel of the lands of the monastery of Hexhame, and by these granting to William lord Ewre (in exchange for the manor of Yokeflete and all that belongs to it in the parishes or hamlets of Yokeflete, Brompton, Westowe, and Rillyngton,) the reversion of the above grant, also a received annual rent of £12 18s. 3½d., also the rectory of Inglebie, co. York, and the chapel and church of Newton with all that belongs to them, late part of the priory of Whitby, with many other properties, to hold the same for ever.

ALDEBURGH, BEFFORTH, &c. William de Dryffeld, draper, of Beverlac ', and Alice his wife grant to John Driffeld, mercer, their son and heir, all the lands and tenements, rents, &c. which they have in Aldburgh, Befforth, Arnall, Gemlyng, Ulrom, Emeslay, Foston, and elsewhere. Dated 1413, and 25 Sept. 13 Henry IV. [Much defaced by red ink.] See MS. Ch. Yorks. 340.

FOSTON, &c. Indenture made between Peter Hykson of London of the one part, and William Holburne of Beuerlee of the other, by which the latter is bound in 100 marks for the safe custody and delivery to the right heirs of certain evidences concerning lands, &c. in Foston, Gemelyng, Befforth, and elsewhere in the county of York, which formerly belonged to Richard Clerk of Gemelyng , and Thomas Fryrsmerske and Alice his wife, and are to be given to their heirs or to the heirs of Thomas Skyrom or John Groward . Dated 4 March, 13 Hen. IV. See MS. Ch. Yorks. 338.

William Smyth of Gemelyng surrenders to John Bilton of Beverlaco, chaplain, son and heir of John Bilton and Cecily his wife , the whole of his title in one messuage in Gemelyng, situated upon 'le Hallhill' which he has by virtue of a certain charter made by William Danyell, chaplain, with the reversion to the said John Bilton. Dated at Gemelyng, 1435, and 20 April, 13 Hen. VI.

Sir Marmaduke Constable, kt., releases sir John de Euer, kt., and Thomas Sturmy of Dromundby from a bond for £40 upon condition of a payment being made of £40 at Westminster to Queen Philippa as her fee ["de auro suo"] upon a fine for £400. Dated at York the Thursday next after the feast of St. Bartholomew, 35 Ed. III.
