BATTYSFORD, co. Suffolk. Indenture dated 3 August, 26 Hen. VIII, by which the rt. rev. father, Richard, busshope of Norwich , with the assent of William, prior of the cathedral church , demises to Henry Aylmer, of Battysford, co. Suff., the manor of Battysford for 72 years, at an annual rent of £13 15s. 6d.

THETFORD. Commission from King Hen. VIII to Thomas Boleyn, kt., Viscount Rocheford, &c., and others, to enquire concerning the decay of houses, loss of rents, &c. of the town of Thetford, parcel of the duchy of Lancaster. Dated 16 Feb., 18 year of the king's reign.

Robert Stelyard, clerk, demises to Margery Draper of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), widow of John Batys and others a tenement in Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund) in the street called Chirchegatestrete, conveyed to him by the said Margery by deed dated 10 Sept. in the same year. Dated at Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid, 15 Sept., 13 Hen. VIII (1521).

Robert Hanham of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), gent., grants to John Cutteris of the same, yeoman, three tenements in the borough of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid, in the street which is called Wellestrett alias Overbaxstrett. Dated at Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), 12 May, 37 Hen. VIII (1545).

Indenture made 1 Oct., 4 Ed. VI (1550), by which Thomas Browse and Edmond Hawkyn, supervisors of the purchasyd town lands, demise to John Jelly one tanner's stall in the Marketsted in Bury St Edmunds (Bury) for 21 years, at an annual rent of 2s.

Indenture made 3 Feb., 35 Hen. VIII (1544), by which Robert Sharppe and John Swanton, supervisors of the lands late Margaret Odam's, now belonging to the guild of the Purification of S. Mary V. demise unto Roger Barbor 27 acres of land in Bury St Edmunds (Bury), Westley (Westeley) and Horringer (Moche Hornyngferth) for 20 years, at an annual rent of 25s. 8d.

Grant by Q. Elizabeth to sir Nicholas Bacon of certain stock "or stawre" of the manor of Mildenhall (Mildenhale), co. Suffolk, formerly demised by the abbot and convent of Bury St. Edmund to Robert Clerk, the said Nicholas paying to the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster , to which the manor of Mildenhall (Mildenhale) is lately annexed, £54 10s. 4d. Dated 24 Nov., 3 Elizabeth (1560).

Simon Hubbard, for the sum of £20, grants to Thomas Genne, maltster, of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) two tenements with a garden, one of them late part of the possessions of the chapel of St. Nicholas in the town of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund). Dated 27 July, 1585.

WINGFIELD (College at). Indenture between master Robert Bude, master or provost of the collegiate church of Wingfield, and the brethren of the same house of the one part, who demise to Robert Warner of Winfarthing (Wynferthyng) of the other part, a certain inclosure in Wingfield (Wyngfeld) for 60 years, at an annual rent of 8s. Dated at Wingfield (Wyngfeld), 1 Jan., 27 Hen. VIII (1536). With signatures of five of the brethren.

John Wyna of Sudbury, draper, and Thomas Loveday, carpenter, demise to Robert Finch of Bulmer (Bulmere, Essex), clerk, and Joan Dawson, widow, of the same place two messuages in Sudbury. Dated 22 May, 18 Hen. VII (1503). [ John Levyng, mayor of Sudbury and Thomas Raynold, chamberlain]

Thomas, the son and heir of Thomas Cobbe of Great Waldingfield (Great Waldingfeld), husbandman, demises to Robert Glasewright and 5 others one close called 'Cobbysmersch' in Great Waldingfield (Great Waldingfeld), which he with others deceased, had from John Hale of Great Waldingfield or Little Waldingfield (Waldingfield) by deed dated 14 Oct. 16 Hen. VII. Dated at Great Waldingfield (Great Waldingfeld), 16 August, 13 Hen. VIII (1521).

John Jernegan, esq., patron of the church of Bradwell, grants to Walter Jernegan, his brother, the right of patronage of the said church of Bradwell for the term of his life. Dated 29 September, 13 Elizabeth (1571). [Torn and mutilated.]

Thomas Caundyssh of Trimley St Martin (Trymley St. Martin) appoints John Elles and John Mellyn his attorneys to take seisin for him of certain lands in Gapton, Bradwell, &c, now in the tenure of William Roberds, esq. Dated 13 May, 31 Elizabeth (1589).

FLIXTON, OULTON, BLUNDESTON, CORTON, and BELTON. Richard Mighell of Lowestoft (Lowstofte), gent. grants to Robert Mighell his son, in consideration of a marriage between him and Joan Godding of Ipswich (Gippewic), daughter of Edward Goodding, the manor of Flixton, lands, tenements, rents, &c., lying and being in the above villages. Dated 26 ..., 33(?) Eliz. [In great part illegible.]

ICKLINGHAM. Indenture between king Henry VIII and George Rowse reciting an indenture dated 18 October, 30 Hen. VIII (1538), from the abbot and convent of Bury St. Edmund, of a lease of the manor of Icklingham with members (Iklyngham), co. Suffolk, for 60 years, at an annual rent of £24, which said lease is surrendered, and another, by the present indenture, granted for 21 years at the same rent. Dated 12 December, 31 Hen. VIII (1539).
