Indenture witnessing that whereas William Warde of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), chaplain, grants and by a certain charter confirms to John Rothe, brasier and Richard Rothe of Carleton, clerk, two tenements within the borough of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), near the great market-place, viz. in 'le Smytherowe,' they are bound to the payment of £20 by certain instalments. Dated at Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), 8 January, 4 Hen. V (1417).

William Leyr of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), mason, Ralph Reward and Stephen Gardyner demise and assign to Thomas Bolesham of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid, Roger Messager, William Rycher, John Smyth, John Gouty, and Roger Gardyner, a certain tenement with three messuages and four pieces of arable land within the borough of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), in the streets called 'Lombislane' and 'Th'mustowe.' Robert Crench of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), cordwainer, executor of the will of Bartholomew Chapeleyn, "cotyller,", confirms to John Stonhard, John Wherham, and George Burton, one grange with a curtilage in the vill of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid, in the street called Overbaxterestrete. Dated at Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid the last day of June, 23 Hen. VI (1445)

Robert Crench of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund) remits and quit-claims to John Stonhard and others all right in a certain grange with a curtilage in the village of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid. Dated at Bury St Edmunds (Bury) aforesaid the last day of June, 23 Hen. VI.

⟨Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund)⟩ John Baret, esq., acknowledges to have received, for himself and John Lydgate, monk of Bury St. Edmund, of William Tyrell, sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk, £3 16s. 8d. of that £7s. 13s. 4d. which the king by letters patent granted to them for the term of their lives. Dated 2 October, 25 Hen. VI (1446).

Memorandum of the receipt by John Boone, abbot of Bury St. Edmund, by the hands of Thomas Cresse, bailiff of Edward Doyle, 26s. 9½d. for the rent of la Pondehill [in Bury St Edmunds] and Gosford for one whole year. Dated on the feast of St. Edmund the King, 34 Hen. VI (20 Nov. 1455).

Indenture by which William Stowe, master of the hospital of St. Nicholas of Bury St. Edmund, with the assent of his brethren, demises to William Somere of Bury St Edmunds (Bury), taylor, a tenement in Bury St Edmunds (Bury) in the street called le Estgatestrete for 98 years, at an annual rent of 3s. Dated at Bury St Edmunds (Bury), 5 February, 38 Hen. VI (1460).

Memorandum of the receipt of 18s. 8d. from the rector of Worlingworth (Wyrlyngworth), by Robert, abbot of Bury St. Edmund, the receiver of the 10ths for the archdeaconries of Suffolk and Sudbury, in payment of the first moiety. Dated 14 November, 12 Ed. IV (1472).

Thomas Purdon of Redgrave, John Hamelyn of Weston, and Thomas Lovesson of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) grant to Thomas Turnur of Bury St Edmunds (Bury) and Margaret his wife, John Hegge, Robert Turnur, William Lawnde and William Bulbroke, two messuages in the village of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmund), in the street called 'Estgatestrete', paying yearly 8s. 8d. for 22 years. INGHAM. Lease from Thomas, abbot of Bury St. Edmund, and the convent of the same, to John and William Hegge de Ingham of their manor of Ingham and all that belongs to it, except the advowson of the church, for 70 years, paying annually to the cellarer of the monastery £16. Dated 10 Sept., 1 Richard III (1483). [Roughly altered as a draft for a lease from abbot John to John Playford and John Talbot for 20 years; dated 10 Sept. ... Henry VIII, year not filled in. Abbot John Reeve succeeded in 1514.]

Statement by an abbot respecting the original appointment and duties of the steward of the franchises and liberties of the abbot of Bury St. Edmund, with complaint of neglect and of wrongs suffered thereby, (one word illegible) bailiff and sub-bailiff almost beaten to death at Sudbury, others taken from Chevington and imprisoned at Bury St Edmunds (Bury), etc. [Temp. Indenture made 23 March, 7 Hen. VII (1492), witnesseth that Robert Crane hath delivered to Thomas, the abbot of Bury St. Edmund, collector of the benevolence granted to the king in the shire of Suffolk towards his voyage royal into France, £212 16s. 4d. collected within the hundred of Babergh Hundred (Babergh).

Clement, abbot and the convent of Leystone, &c., appoint Richard Robertson and William Styward as their atttorneys to deliver seisin to John Jenney, sen., and William Jenney his son, of certain messuages and tenements in Leiston (Leyston), Knodishall (Knodeshale), &c. Dated 20 April, 29 Hen. VI (1451).

Certificate of Peter Schelton, LL.B., commissary of Alexander, bp. of Norwich , that at a visitation held 24 November, 1408, in the parish church of Frostenden, the abbot and convent of Sybeton produced evidences of the appropriation of the church of Sibton (Sybeton) with the chapel of Peasenhall (Pesenhale) annexed, and also of the appropriation of the churches of Rendham, Cransford (Cranisford), Westleton, and Tunstall, and repeated at a visitation held in Beccles ("Bekkelys") church 18 June, 1413. Peasenhall.. An inhibition from Roger Radclyff, dean of arches staying the presentation of dom. Thomas Braycrofte to the church of Peasenhall (Pesenale) by the bp. of Norwich, on the representation of the abbot and convent of Sybeton, pending an appeal. Dated at London, 2 Kl. June (31 May), 1466.

Certificate from William Woode, commissary of James, bp. of Norwich , that the abbot and convent of Sybeton exhibited their muniments, &c. concerning the appropriation of the half of the church of Sibton (Sybeton) with the chapel of Peasenhall (Pesenale), the parish churches of Rendham, Cransford (Cranesford), and Westleton, and of Tunstall (Tunstale), at a visitation held at Ipswich 11 October, 1474.

Nicholas, the prior, and convent of Woodbridge grant to Robert Wyvyle, esq., a certain annual rent or pension of £6 sterling for the term of his life, issuing out of their lands &c. in the villages of Brampton (Bramston), Newbourne (Neuburne), and Hemley (Helmole). Dated at Woodbridge, 10 August, 31 Hen. VI (1453).

That number is not now to be found, but the entry was probably mistaken duplication of the above entry.] Nicholas, the prior, and convent of St. Mary of Woodbridge confirm to Robert Wyvyle, esq., an annual pension of £6 for his life, issuing out of the manors of Brampton (Bramston), Haspley with Newbourne (Neuburne), and Hemley (Helmole), co. Suffolk; and if Beatrice, wife of the said Robert, should survive him, she to have a pension of 4 marks. Dated at Woodbridge, 10 August, 31 Hen. VI (1453).

James Thurgore of Acton (Aketon), William Sheldrake of Sudbury, Gilbert Wareyne, John Bryan, Robert Longe, and Robert Parteryche of Acton (Aketon), demise to Ann Freman, late wife of John Freman of Hartest (Hertest), James Ward, James Sped, John Ward of Shimpling (Shymplyng), and William Cokshed of Hartest (Hertest), one messuage, 7 acres of land, one rood of wood, and 6d. rent in the village of Acton (Aketon).
