OTHAM. Geoffrey de St. Leodegario [St. Leger] confirms to [the church of] St. Laurence and the canons of ⟨Otteham⟩ , "he.b'...ton (?)" in frankalmoigne, Eadward Crepp . (c. 1200.)

Convention between the abbot and convent of Begeham of one part, and Ranaulf le Rudde of the other, by which the said Ranaulf grants to the said abbot and convent the land which Thomas of the Marsh held of him, and granges .... in exchange for 13 acres one rood of land .... (c. 1210-20.) In great part illegible.

Herbert de Burgherse grants to Richard the sompner (sumonitori} of Leawes , for his service, 12 acres of land in the marsh of Heilesham, paying annually for the same the third part of one half-mark, and at Christmas, the third part of one pound of pepper and one pound of cummin. For this donation the said Richard gave 23 marks of silver, (c. 1220-30.) .

ABBEY OF BEIGHAM. BEIGHAM. Ela de Sakeville, daughter of Ralph de Dene , widow, confirms the grants of her father and brother &c. to the abbey of Otteham with license to transfer the abbey to Be[igham called Beaulieu]. [Mutilated.] (1200-1210.) The grant was confirmed by King John in 1210-11.

Michael de Tonge grants to the church of St. Mary of Begeham, in frankalmoigne, the whole of his land of Tonge, paying annually to him and his heirs 1d. (c. 1200-10.) .

KECHENHAM. Adam, son of Edric of West Kechenham , remits and quit-claims to the abbot and convent of Begeham the whole of the land which he held from the said abbot and convent in West Kechenham. (c. 1210-20.) .

Matilda de Bendestede, widow, grants to the abbot and convent of Begeham, in frankalmoigne, .... shillings and fourpence which John de .... Kerigge (?) was accustomed annually to pay her from a tenement, (c. 1230-40.) .

MATTEFELD. William, son of Alexander de Mattefeld , grants and quit-claims to the church of St. Mary of Begeham for 4 marks the whole of his land in Mattefeld, viz. 18 acres and the third part of a messuage, (c. 1260-70.) .

LAMBERHURST. (see rent page) Theobald Strangboghe grants to William le Reve two acres of land and wood lying in the parish of Lamberherst, paying annually to him and his heirs one halfpenny. For this grant the said Theobald received 24s. sterling. (c. 1250-60.) .

(Endorsement) Simon Payer of the parish of Fristhon grants to the abbot and canons of St. Mary, Begeham, in frankalmoigne, .... shillings of annual rent which Andrew de Croichuke (?) was accustomed to pay to him .... (c. 1250-60.) [Mutilated and in part illegible.] .

John de la Burne , with the assent of Agnes his wife, grants to the church of St. Mary of Begham a house in the parish of Lamberherst. (c. 1260-70.) [Mutilated.] .

John, called the young "Juvenis", of Hellingelie , and Alice his wife, daughter of J ... de Hellingelie grant and quit-claim to the abbey of Begham all their right in 1 ½lb. of pepper annual rent. (c. 1260-70.) [Mutilated.] .

HELLINGLEY. Laurence, the abbot and convent of Begham demise to Thomas le Bret and Isabel his wife .... in the village of Hellingeleghes . . . . (c. 1280-90.) [A fragment.] .

William, the third earl of Sussex , confirms to the church of St. Bartholomew 'de Calceto, Arundel', the donation which Gilbert de Winton made to them of the messuage which Noel held in Arundel. (1196-1221.) .

Faramus de .... sells and quit-claims for ever Walter son of Durand , to Robert the chaplain of the earl of Arundel , with all his goods and issue for half a mark. (c. 1210-1220?.) .

HAMPTON. John le Justur of Wykes grants to the church of St. Bartholomew of the Causeway of Arundel, 16d. of rent which the prior and canons were annually accustomed to pay him for two messuages and 7 acres of land in Hampton, which the said canons possess by his gift. (c. 1230-40.) .

Nicholas Plocat of Chichester, son and heir of Roger Plocat , remits and quit-claims to the prior and canons of the Causeway, Arundel, all his right &c. in 14d. annual rent, for a messuage in Chichester in the lane called Bakeleh Lane which the said prior and canons had by the gift of Gunnilda Hechemele . Witness. William de Wythsond, then mayor of Chichester . (c. 1250-70.) .

BILLINGHURST. Robert le Franceys of Billingehurst grants to the church of St. Bartholomew of the Causeway, Arundel, in frankalmoigne, certain parcels of land in Billingehurst, called Wesertonfeld, Istertonfeld, Garston [&c] with the homage and service of Bartholomeus the chaplain of Billingehurst and of Adam de la Fraunceys and a rent of 12d, for the sum of 40s "ad magnum negocium meum". (c. 1250-60.)

William de Arundel, clerk, remits and quit-claims to Stephen, the prior, and the canons of the Causeway, Arundel, 12d. of annual rent, in the parish of Billinghurst, which Robert le Franceis gave him. Witness. Robert de ...une, then seneschal of Arundel . (c. 1250-60.) .

John de Palingefaud grants to the church of St. Bartholomew of the Causeway, Arundel, in frankalmoigne, certain parcels of land in Billinghurst, viz. Westentonfeld, Istertonfeld, Garston, with the homage and service of Adam de la Fanne , and a rent of 12d. (c. 1250-60.) .

Matilda, wife of John de Beauchamp ("Bellocampo") of Schorham , grants to the church of St. Bartholomew of the Causeway, Arundel, twenty [shillings] from a messuage which Bernard de H ..ha her father, gave to the canons to provide a light in the church at the altar of the Blessed Virgin, of which he had in dowry with his wife Matilda, mother of the above said Matilda; paying annually 6d. c. 1240-50. [Mutilated.] .

Henry de Wisbereze quit-claims to Robert Mulet of the Causeway , for 5s. all right in a certain area at the Causeway which Adam the clerk, son of Robert the skinner , gave to him; paying annually 6d. Witness. Richard Dodding, then mayor of Arundel . (c. 1260-70.) .

Thomas, the prior, and the canons of the Causeway, Arundel, grant to William Bristlaf, clerk of Durington , for his service, all right and claim with curtilages and with all their appurtenances, which he had by the gift of sir Adam, chaplain of the Causeway , to hold, &c. of them and their successors to him and his heirs for ever, paying annually 20d. sterling at the feast of St. Michael, (c. 1260-70.) .

Joan, formerly wife of Ralph le Tayllur , grants to the church of St. Bartholomew, 'de Calceto Arundell', and the canons there 1 ½ acre of land which she and Ralph her husband gave to William and Christiana de Wowodesham[sic] . [c. 1240-50.] .
