VII [1507?]]. Dated 2 Hen. VIII [1510].

Lound. 1277. Grant (faded) from Thomas [Cole?] and Alice his wife to John Mayn of Lound (Lund), [of land(?)] near that of Sir Geoffrey Wyth on the East and the royal way on the west … Witnesses … le Coke, Henry de Colton, and others. Dated at Lound (Lund), 5 Ed. [I?] {c. 1277?] The seals are wanting.

Mettingham. 1432. Licence, dated at Framlingham (Framlyngham) on the feast of St John the Baptist 22 Hen. VI [1443-1444] from John Duke of Norffolk, Earl Marshal, and Earl of Notingham, Marshal of England, lord of Moubray, Segraue and Gowere, to Robert Wylinghby [in endorsement, Willoughby], lord of Eresby and Margaret Grene, gentilwoman, living at Mettingham (Metyngham) [in endorsement Mettingham], to grant a messuage, 46 acres of land, 4 acres of meadow, 3 acres of pasture 6s. 8d. of rent, etc., formerly belonging to John Mowe and later to William Blobbere of Ilketshall St Margaret (Ilketishale St Margaret, Suffolk), held of the lordship of Bungey [Bungay] at 13s. 4d. rent, to Roger Bonbrygge, master or warden, and the members of the College of St Mary of Metyngham. Witnesses: John de Heuenyngham, kt., John Hoptone, Thomas Brews, esquires, John Heydone, Reginald Rous, and others. Signed Mr. Norff. The seal is wanting.

Fine and recovery by which Bartholomew Bretenham and Cristina his wife convey to John Coke and Ralph Wyreham their right in a messuage, 140 acres of land, 6 acres of meadow, 20 acres of pasture, 10 acres of wood, and a rent of 4s. 6d, with appurtenances in Stentoun and Floktoun, to be held of the said John and Ralph by the said Bartholomew and Cristina for life, rendering yearly a roseö with remainder to the said John and Ralph, and the heirs of John. Great Thurlow, Little Thurlow, Great Bradley, Little Bradley, Great Wratting. 1534. Writ from Henry VIII to the sheriff of Suffolk directing him to secure the observance by William Turnor of covenants made with Ann Bladwelle, widow, William Drury, knt., Robert Drury, esq., George Colte, esq., Bartholomew Brokysby, esq., Henry Meyer, Thomas Meyer, and Thomas Adde, concerning 2 messuages, 60 acres of land, 8 acres of meadow, 20 acres of pasture, and 24 acres of wood, with appurtenances in Little Thirlowe, Great Thirlowe, Great Bradley, Little Bradley, and Great Wrattyng, on pain of a summons before the Justices at Westminster. 6s. 8d. paid into the Hanaper. Seal is missing, so is the signature.

Wickham Market. 1581-1582. Grant by Queen Elizabeth to Sir Robert Wyngfelde of privilege of holding a weekly market, on Tuesdays and 3 fairs annually on the vigil, feast and morrow of St Mathias, St Mark, and SS. Simon and Jude.

Bury St Edmunds (Bury St. Edmunds). 1568. An inspeximus under seal of Queen Elizabeth, of the charters of St Edmunds Abbey, Bury [St Edmunds, co. Suffolk], undertaken on the petition of Nicholas Barbon(?), rehearsing charters of Canute - Edward the Confessor (in A.S.) - Henry I - Richard I - John - Edward I - Edward III - Richard II - Henry IV. Signed by Osborne. Endorsed as enrolled 16 March 36 Eliz. by John Hesberd. Seal is missing.

Rushmere St Andrew (Rushmere). 1667-1668 . Bond by Edward Salter, of Rushmere St Andrew (Rushmer, Suffolk), gent. to Richard Phillips, of Ipswich (Ipswich [Gipp'o]), grocer, of a bond in £1500, for payment of £795 on Jan. 14, 1668-1669. Witnesses: Francis Colman, George Salter, Francis Harrison, Thomas Salter.

Bury St Edmunds. 1606. Receipt from Hemye Wright, of Bury St Edmunds (Bury St Edmond, Suffolk), gent., to Dame Elizabeth Kytson, Sir John Hobart, Edmund Bacon, esq., James Artys and John Mallowes (executrix and trustees), of the receipt for £102.10, owing to him under bond, by the late Sir Thomas Kytson, of Hengrave (Hengrave, Suffolk). Before his death he had conveyed the manors of Durweston and Knighton (Knighton in Dorset) to the four trustees above to be sold according to the terms of his will and the direction of his executrix. They were sold to Sir Edward Coke, chief justice of the common pleas.

Bury St Edmunds. 1398. Pope Boniface IX, indult at the petition of King Richard II and the abbot and convent of Bury St Edmunds, to elect their own abbot and administer the monastery without other confirmation as if their abbot had been elected in the customary manner, etc. (This to avoid the perils and expenses of the journey to Rome). Seal lost.

Thetford. 1363. Alice, wife of late William le Warner of Thetford (Thefford) and executrix of his will grants to William Pyper of Tettyngton a messuage in Thefford which was William Godman of Ixworth (Ixworthe)'s, lying between the messuages of formerly of John Pyk' and Sir John de Furneyx, knight, abutting on the highway called Gresmarket leading to the market of Thefford ('Regalem viam ducentem dil[sic] Gresmarket versus forum Thefford') and a lane called Pykeslane for a certain sum of money. Witnesses: John Davy, mayor of Thetford (Thefford), John Cha' coronatinus, Simon de Grenndesbourg, William Lester, William Hardyng, John Sherberd, William Russhel. Seal is missing.

Snape (Snapes). 1391. Copy from court roll of surrender and admission. Surrender by Alice, wife of late John Raulyn jun., without the court according to the custom of the manor, through teh hands of Thomas Merly, father of the said tenant and in the presence of Robert Fynch, villein tenant, to the lord and others of the homage, of 3 roods of land held by villein tenure called Stonylond of the holding of Folkes, with appurtenances in Snapes, and admission of Margaret Folkes. Dated: Tuesday [12 Sept.] after Nativity B.M.V. 15 Ric. II [1391].

Hopton St Margaret (Hopton). 1675. Bargain and sale. Augustine Riches of Great Yarmouth, mariner to William Watson of same, mariner cites frond(?) from Riches to William, sells to Richard Berney of Park Hall (Parkehall in Reedham, Norfolk), esq., in £200, a messuage (1 acre and 3 rods) in Brotherton in Hopton, Suffolk (described). Dated: 13 Oct. 27 Charles II.

Icklingham (Ickingham). 1713. Copy of court roll. Surrender by Joseph Sharpe, gent., of 3 pieces of villein land (described) which he had had on surrender by his father Joseph Sharpe on 13 Oct. 1671, to use of Thomas Peirson, gent. and June, his wife, daughter of the Joseph (?), as in indenture between Joseph Sharpe of Retford(?) (and Jane, of same, spinster) and William Peirson of Middleton (Middleton, Norfolk), gent., and James Barker of Shropham, esq., Michael Colvile of Inner Temple, esq., Robert Purland of East Walton, clerk, Richard Baylis of London, (?) and Thomas Peirsin of Wisbech, gent. (son of William). Dated: Thursday 22 Oct., 12 Anne.

Wilby. 1688. Copy of court roll. Court of Robert Thomsons, esq., held by Philip Clarke, gent., his steward, at court of 8 Sept. 34 Charles II. Richard Greene of Wilby, gent., holding as villein, surrenders to use of his will. Greene died in seisin. Richard Greene, senior, his son comes by Alice Greene his mother and produces the will (dated 9 May 1687). Seisin is therefore given to Richard in holdings described, as he is only 5, wardship is given to Alice. Dated: Fri 23 Nov., 4 James II

Cockfield. 1637. Feoffment. Thomas Crebe of Kirtling (Kirtling, Camb.), gent. and his wife Jane, grant to John Grymwood, yeoman, of Cockfield (Cockfield, Suffolk), and son of Jane Crebe, the tithes in Cockfield etc. sometime belonging to the chapel of Lindsey (Lindsey, Suffolk), which were confiscated by Edward VI in 1550. History of descent to Thomas Crebe and Jane Crebe. Dated: 13 Charles II

William Randall of Beccles (Beccles, Suffolk) leases to John Clarlee of Beccles, woollen draper, his wife Anne, only daughter and heir of Robert Randall, late of Denton (Denton, Norfolk), gent., deceased, the tenements left to him by the will of Robert Randall for 6 months with no rent in consideration of sum of 5 shillings. Eye. 1675. Declaration of use of fine. Henry Nicoll of University of Cambridge, B.A., younger son of Richard Nicoll, late of London, gent. and Richard Nicholl of London, merchant, brother and heir of Basill Nicol, deceased grant to Elizabeth Nicoll of London, widow, mother of Henry and Richard, for money, 30 acres meadow, 10 acres pasture, in Eye, Suffolk, in a lease for 7 years. Dated: 2 June, 27 Charles II

Thomas Brome of Occold (Occold, Suffolk), yeoman, sells to John Jeasoppe of same, yeoman, freehold and copyhold land in Occold, lying in 2 closes called Spooner's tenement and Buxpuis, freehold land of 8.5 acres, customary land of 2.5 acres, for the price of £70, sale in fee simple. Dated: 4 October, 11 Eliz.

Badley. 1384. Grant. Geoffrey, parson of Weston, and Henry Cartewaner of Needham Market grants to Simon de Burley, Nicholas Dagworthe, kt., John Rodynge and John Paykyrke of Badley, all the land and tenements of Geoffrey and Henry in the town and fields of Badley, held by gift of Simon Vincent of Badley, except a certain tenement called Grettefordes, to hold of the chief lord of the fee for the usual dues.
