MOULESFORD. Mandate of K. Hen. I addressed to Hugh de Bocheland commanding him to allow the monks of Wallingford to have their tithes of Moulesford, and of the land of Henry the larderer , as they held them in the time of K. CLOPCOTE. Alan, son of Amfrid the son of Ruald , grants to the church of Wallingford in frankalmoigne his meadow which was the meadow of his father in Clopcote, lying in the eastern part of the castle before the postern, (c. 1189.) [Printed in the Monasticon, vol. iii. p. 280.]

WALLINGFORD, HENDRED, MOULSFORD, SOTTWELL, etc. Charter of Joceline, bishop of Salisbury , reciting and confirming to the priory of Wallingford the donation of the churches of the Holy Trinity, St. John, St. Martin, and St. Mary, in Wallingford; the church of Hendred, two parts of the tithes of Moulsford of the gift of Emma Chausi , the tithes of Chersevelle, Dunituna, Erleia, Morton, and the lordship of Sotwell. Nethercote [Oxon.].. Miles de Nothercot grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms ½ a virgate of land in Nothercot, which Stephen the son of Richard the miller of Salingford held. Witnesses: Adam parson of Chenhora , Henry de scaccario , Matthew Brond , Hugh of Pochel ’, John of Cennore , William of Wudesmundeston , William son of Andrew , Gilbert son of Gerard , Robert Lerun , William Germund . ⟨c. 1180.⟩

Clapcote. Geoffrey the Cook of Wareng’ grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms 7 acres of arable land and all his other land in C⟨lapcote⟩ , lying in ’peecam de W.’ on the North, free of all secular service, ’ego enim et heredes mei eam acquietabimus per officium nostrum in coquina’ ... For this gift made for the souls of Brian fitz-Count , his lord, and the lady Matilda his wife, he has received from the monks 60/-, and his son half a mark. Wallingford and Clapcote.. Master Christian of W⟨allingford⟩ , grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms certain lands: (i) ... which Robert son of P...hel’ holds, for 6/6; (ii) ... mill for 4/-; (iii) the other land which Renur the clerk gave to him; (iv) also Walter and Osbert for 2/4; (v) after his death, all his books of the Divine Scriptures. For this they have granted him a daily provision of food and drink for himself [as long as ?] he shall remain a secular, and for his servant according to the provision made for a servant of the priory. Witnesses: Andrew son of Peter , ... Ferr’, William Gurmund . ⟨c. 1190–1200.⟩

IVINGHOE, Priory of. Letter of Thomas a Becket, archbishop of Canterbury , confirming to the religious of the wood of Ivingehou all their possessions which they had by the gift of William, bishop of Winchester , and confirmed by Henry his successor, as well as the gifts of Milo Neiremut and William de Pichenestorre and all their other possessions. TOTHAM (Little). Maurice, son of Robert of Toteham (Totham) , grants to the church of St. Mary, St. John the Baptist, and St. Nicholas of Tipentrie, land in Little Toteham of his fee which Richard, son of Tiedieue , holds, for 4 buckets (buchatis) of salt annually, in frankalmoigne. (c. 1160-80.)

HORKESLEY. Robert, son of Godebold , and Beatrix his wife give to God and St. Mary, and the monks of Thetford belonging to the church of Cluniac, all their churches, &c., for the souls of the King, their ancestors, parents, and friends, upon condition that the prior of Thetford, with the consent of the convent, should send as many monks to serve God in the church of St. Peter, Horkesley (Horchesleia), as the place would conveniently maintain; and for their common subsistence they assigned their other churches of Wiston (Wisetona), Assildeham, with 60 acres of land, and the half of the church of Boxsted (Bochesteda), the whole of the tithes of their lordship of Boxsted, and Beatrix gave the whole of the tithe of her marriage portion, and of the land which Turold her uncle gave her. Also they gave the tithe of Foleton (Foletona) and Fordham, and ten solidates of land in Roydon (Reidona). (c. 1130.) Gilbert, bishop of London , confirms a gift of Robert, son of Robert , of the half of the church of Bocsted to the priory of St. Peter, Horkesley, and also the donations of Robert, son of Godbold , to the same place as the charter of Richard his predecessor witnesses. THETFORD (Priory of). Letter of Baldrick, archdeacon of Leicester , reciting a convention between the monks of Tetford and Hugh the priest, concerning 2 parts of the tithes of the lordship of William, son of Herbert of Tuick' [Twycross] , made before him, viz. that the said Hugh shall hold the said tithes of the monks of Thetford for an annual rent of 3s. (c. 1160.)

WISTON. Confirmation by Hubert, archbishop of Canterbury , of the appropriation of the church of Wisetune, [Norwich dioc.,] to the monks of Theford at Horkeslee. (c. 1195.) [Deed recites the appropriation by John, the bishop of Norwich .] [Mutilated.]

Robert, son of Philip , grants and confirms to the monks of Thetford at Horkesley, with the possessions, which Robert, son of Godebold , and Robert, son of Robert , and Philip, .... father, gave to them, viz. the churches of Horkesley, Wysentune, Hessildele, and half of the church of Boxstede, together with the whole of the tithes of his demesne of Boxstede, two parts of the tithes of Fordham and Foletun, the whole of the tithes of the marsh of Fulenesse, &c., in frankalmoigne. (c. 1190-1200.) .

HWIVERMERES. William, constable of Hwinermeres , grants to the church of St. Peter, Horkesley, in frankalmoigne, 20 acres of land in Hwyvermeres of the fee of sir John de Nevile . (c. 1180-90?)

WICKHAM SKEYTH, SUFFOLK. Mandate of King Stephen addressed to Ralph concerning half a hide and two mes. in the same in Wicham, belonging to the abbot and convent of Colchester. (c. 1150.) [Partly illegible.]

King Henry II to Hugh Pincerna [the butler] commanding him without delay to return to the monks of Colchester their land in Wicham, so that they may hold the same in peace and freely, as the charters of King Henry his grandfather, and of himself, testify. (c. 1160.)

Hugh Pincerna [the butler] restores to the abbey of St. John, Colchester, the tenement in Wicham, formerly given by Ralph his grandfather and which Adam Pincerna , son of Ralph, confirmed. (c. 1160.)
