Demise by Stephen Wolfe and Thomas Stoughton, citizens and fishermen of London, to Henry Bourgchier by John Say, esq., William Tyrell of Gyppynge, esq., John Mongomory, esq., Thomas Mongomory, esq., John Clopton, John Denston, esq., John Grene of Gosfeld, and David Mortymer, all those their lands and tenements, woods, meadows, pastures, rents, customs and services in Esenden and Hatfeld Bishops, co. Hertford, together with the advowson of the chantry of St. Anne in the church of Hatfeld Bishops, which they had conjointly by the demise of Sir Thomas Tyrell, kt., Sir Thomas Charleton, kt., and ten others. Inquisition. Astcote (Northamptonshire) (manor). [1375] 49 Ed. III (1375). . Inquisition taken on the death in 42 or 43 [Ed. III] of Alianor, who was [wife of Rich. de Maundevill] and held the manor of Anescote [or Avenescote] of the king in capite; Thomas, son of Ralph Maundeville, is next heir [mutilated.]

Plea. Hatfield Peverel (Essex). Morrow of the close of Easter, 30 Ed. III (1356). . Plea in chancery on the morrow of the close of Easter, 30 Ed. III, concerning the manor of Hatfeld Peverel, returned by John de Coggeshale, escheator for the co. of Essex, as being held by Margery, wife of Nicholas de la Bech, and widow of Edmund Bacoun ; claimed by William de Molyns and Margery his wife, daughter of the said Margery and Edmund Bacoun.

Judgement. Wigan (Lancashire). 17 Ed. II (1324). . Judgement (from the Plea Rolls of 17 Ed. II) against Robert de Cliderhou, parson of Wigan, who had supplied Thomas, earl of Lancaster, with two men at arms (one being his own son Adam) and four foot soldiers well armed, against the king and of preaching publicly in his church on behalf of the earl. He is found guilty, is bailed in 1000 marks by thirteen persons and at last fined (but the amount of the fine is lost) (copy, in the reign of Ed. III).

Grant. Evesham, Benedictine abbey. Monday next after the feast of All Saints, 5 Rich. II (1381). . Indenture made between the abbot of Evesham of the one part, and Nicholas de Stafford of the other, being a grant of the wardship of Hugh, son of Hugh de Wrottesleye and Isabella his wife, until full age, for the lands etc. held of the abbey in Wrottesleye. Dated at Evesham (French).

Pipe roll, extract. Lawford Hall (Essex) (manor). 38 Hen. VI (1460). . Extract from the great roll of the pipe, co. Essex, 38 Hen. VI, concerning the issues and profits of the manor of Lalleford, which had been granted by the king, 10 October, 26 Hen. VI, to John Say, usher of the king's chamber, deceased.

Lease. Pershore (Priory of). Feast of St. Michael, 17 Henry VII (1501). . Indenture made between Dan William Aldermerston, prior of Pershour, and John Chalnour, of the same town, by which the prior lets the ferm place of Allesberough with all appurtenances for 13 years, paying annually ij wey of wheat, vij wey of barley, well winnowed, 12 geese, 12 capons, with other conditions and a payment of 6s. 8d. yearly for all waifs and strays enumerating also certain stock and utensils delivered to the said John for his term (English).

Grant. Stonely, priory of Austin canons. Grant from William de Mandevill, earl of Essex, to James de Calceto [of the causeway, Causey], for his homage and service from his lordship of Kynebauton, in exchange for his land of Bolinton and Brokeburn, which he quit-claimed to the said earl, the land called Werkewelle, with other lands, etc., in Stow and Neuton. Added at the foot of this deed are copies of two other documents in French showing how Werkewelle came from James de Calceto into the possession of the prior of Stonlee (both documents are copies made in the 15th century).

Fine. Tidmington (Worcestershire) (manor). Quindene of St. Michael, 8 Ed. II (1314). . Fine made at Westminster, between Simon de Crombe and Joan his wife, plaintiffs, by Henry de Wenlond, their attorney, and Thomas le Botiller, defendant, concerning the manor of Tidilmynton with appurtenances, and one messuage, one carucate of land, and 10 marks of annual rent in Admundescote; by which the property is re-conveyed to the said Simon and Joan and their heirs.

Grant. Coulton (Yorkshire, North Riding) (manor), South Holme (Yorkshire, North Riding) (manor). Thursday next before Palm Sunday, 17 Rich. II. (1394). . Two deeds by which Brian Stapilton, Thomas Colvill, David de . . . if, John de Pykeryng, William de Sproxton, and Robert de . . . grant their manors of Caul[ton?] and Southolme in Ridale to Alice de Kirkeby, which manors they had by feoffment of Thomas de Etton of Gilling. Dated at Southolme (contemporary copies; mutilated).

Convention. Waterbeche (Cambridgeshire), Mesdone m (Hertfordshire) (manor). Quindene of Hilary, 47 Hen. III to Michaelmas, for five years from Michaelmas (1268). . Convention made between the lady Dionisia de Muntchenes', lady of Anestie, of the one part, and Richard le Butiller, rector of the church of Mesdone, of the other, namely, that the said Richard grants to Dionisia the whole of a tenement which Robert his brother held in the village of Waterbeche, in the co. of Cambridge, with all its appurtenances, to hold the same for her life as dower, for the third part of the lands of the said Robert le Butiller, formerly her husband; also he grants the manor of Mesdone, in the county of Herteford, with the wood called ' Smalhey' to hold the same from the Quindene of St. Hilary, 47 Hen. III, until the feast of St. Michael, and from the same feast to the end of five years, at an annual rent or the five years of £30.

Grant in frankalmoign. Sopwell, Benedictine priory. [c. 1253] (1253). . Grant from Sir John de Scheldford, kt., in frankalmoigne, to the church of St. Mary of Soppewelle, and to the nuns there, 5s. of annual rent with homages, reliefs, wards, escheats, and all other appurtenances in the Soke of the Park (Socha de Parco), which he bought of Geoffrey, son of John de Eywude; rendering yearly one halfpenny. [Witnessed by Will. [?] de St. Leger, seneschal of St. Albans, who held that office in 1253.]

Petition. Radstone (Northamptonshire) (manor). [9 Ed. II, 1315-1316?] (1316). . Petition of Antony de Lucy and John de Multon of Egermond to the king and his council against John de Claveryng concerning the manor of Rodeston [French].

Title. Southampton (Hampshire). St. Dunstan's day, 1390 (1390). . Title of Henry Seman to three tenements in Estrete [East Street] in the suburb of Southampton by descent from Felicia Cole.

Grant. Dedington (Oxfordshire) (manor). [c. 1210-1220] (1220). . Grant from Aliz, daughter of Thomas Basseth, to Gilbert [...] half a virgate of land which William [...], which is of her free marriage dowry in Dadinton, also one virgate which Thomas Basseth her father gave to him, which William Ploth held in the same village; paying annually one pound of cummin.

Eske (Yorkshire, East Riding) (manor), Burnsall (Yorkshire, West Riding), Conistone (Yorkshire, West Riding), Hebden Moorside (Yorkshire, West Riding), Hetton (Yorkshire, West Riding), Thorpe (Yorkshire, West Riding). Pentecost, 14 Ed. I (1286). . Grant from William, son and heir of William de Eboraco, kt., to Amand de Surdeval and Cecilia his wife, mother of the said William, his wife for dower, four bovates of land and three tofts in Esk with five serfs their chattels and belongings, together with the first gift of the moiety of the church of Brennesale in Craven, which Sir Richard de Knol had by gift of the said William's father in exchange for her dower in Craven, viz. in Coningstone, Hebbedenne, Brennesale, Heton, and in Thorp, saving certain serfs and lands to the said Amand and Cecilia, subject to an annual rent of 2s. 6d. to the said William, and a rent of 6s. to the lady Alicia la Chaumberlenk.

Return for taxation. Canterbury, province, York, province. [1327-1377] (1377). . Document headed 'Nomina abbatum et prioratum certificantium literatorie et curie romanie valor monasteriorum eorundem secundum eandem certificationem' ; consisting of a list of religious houses in the Provinces of Canterbury and York, with amounts of money alongside each, perhaps assessments of value. The document is identified in the Catalogue of Charters as 'a return, temp. Edward III for taxation '; if so, the relevant tax has not yet been identified.

Grant in frankalmoigne. Bruern, Cistercian abbey. [c. 1200] (1200). . Grant from William, son of William de Seldesleia, to the monks of Brueria that half hide which he gave and confirmed by his charter, in frankalmoigne, and one virgate of land which Osbert de Ludelay sold to the said monks; describing particulars in detail; among witnesses "toto haliot de Fifhida".

Grant, power of attorney. Gate Burton (Lincolnshire), Lea (Lincolnshire), Temple Hurst (Yorkshire, West Riding), East and West Retford (Nottinghamshire), Rampton (Nottinghamshire), Littleborough ferry (Nottinghamshire). 1 September, 4 Hen. IV (1403). . Grant from John, lord Darcy of Menell, to Sir John de Melton, kt., Thomas Clarell, esq., John de Moore, rector of Beghton, Thomas Mapirlay, Robert Plomley, Elias de Blyth, and John Daunay, all lands and tenements, rents, etc., which were William Mortoyn's, in the villages of Gatburton and Lee, or elsewhere within the county of Lincoln, and in Hyrst, in the county of York, and in the villages of Retford in le Cley and Rampton, in the county of Nottingham, together with the whole of the ferry (cum toto passagio) beyond the Trent, called Lytylburgh fery. Dated at Gatburton. Subjoined is the power of attorney to Nicholas Daunay and John Grayne to deliver seisin to the said parties of the lands, etc. enumerated in the preceding charter. Dated at Gatburton on the same day as the grant (contemporary copy).

Grant. Caton (Lancashire). [c. 1260-1270] (1270). . Grant from Roger, son of Vivian Gernet, to the brethren of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, one bovate of land with a messuage in the village of Caton, also one acre in the same village between the land of the abbot of Cokersand, and the land of Roger Gernet of Caton, at the "scidyard" of Welsted; and two acres of land lying at the upper head of Welested.

Letters patent, dated at Westminster, granting to the abbot of Jorevall a licence in mortmain to hold six messuages, one bovate, and 23 acres of land with appurtenances in Est Witton, Overelyngton, and Hoton-hang in the county of York, given by William de Thornton, vicar of Est Wytton, for providing a chaplain to celebrate daily in the church of B. M. of Jorevall for ever (mutilated).

Letter. Quarr, Cistercian abbey. 22 May, 1508 (1508). . Letter to Richard [Fox], bp. of Winchester, from William, the abbot of Stratford, diocese of London, asking for his benediction for Richard Totenham who had been elected, confirmed, and installed abbot of Quarrer, in the room of Thomas London, deceased.
