BOTHEM. John de Burton demises to John Dade of Wakefeld the whole of his manor of Bothem for 20 years, paying annually after the first year 40s. of silver. Dated at Wakefeld the Monday after the feast of St. Tiburtius, 1323.

BREREHAGE and ECOP. Jordan, son of Stephen de Witon , quit-claims to Alan de Brerehage , for 22s. all right and claim which Richard, son of Peter his grandfather, held in Brerehage and Ecop, excepting two bovates of land which Stephen, father of the said Jordan, held of Robert his father in Ecop. (c. 1210-30.) .

BRADFIELD. Cecilia, widow , who was the wife of Roger de Westone , remits and quit-claims for 2½ marks to Hugh de Bradefeld, clerk, and Mabil his wife, all right in that land which the said Roger de Westone sold to the said Hugh and Mabil. Dated at Bradefeld the Thursday next before the Assumption of B.V. M., 18 Ed. I.

Thomas de Ardern , abiding ("manens") in Westburton, grants to sir Adam de Spofford, vicar of Westburton , and sir William his brother, chaplain, for a sum of money, the whole of the land which he has of the gift of the dean and chapter of York in the village of Westburton; paying yearly 3s. to the dean and chapter. Dated at Westburton, Ides of February, 1284.

BURLEY. Convention (indented) made the year Lodovic [King of France] returned from England [i.e. 1217], for a term of 6 years from the feast of St. Martin, by which Ysabella des Rodiz and William her son demise to Ralph, son of Bernard , and Jordan, son of Warin , three bovates of land in Birle, which Owain held, for 11s. of silver, which the said Ralph and Jordan gave for a recognition, and a rent of 8s. per annum.

CALVERLEY. John Symson of Pudsey, son and heir of William Symson , late of the same, grants and quit-claims to Robert Symson his brother all his messuages, lands, and tenements, within the parish of Calverley. Dated at Pudsey, 22 Oct., 4 Hen. VIII.

CAMPSALL. Cecilia, daughter of John the cook, widow, confirms to Hugh, son of Agnes , one plot of 32 feet in breadth and 88 ft. in length, in a toft which John the cook formerly held in the village of Cannsal, for a sum of money "in mea maxime necessitate"; paying yearly one penny. (c. 1240-50.) .

CARLTON, Nottinghamshire. Henry de Lamele grants to Richard de Normanville the whole of the land he has in Duniscroft, viz. those two selions which lie to the east of the way called Kirkegate between Carleton and Gedling, in exchange for land near the said Henry's curtilage of Gedling. (c. 1250-60.) .

DUFFELD. Alan Wastehose grants to Peter, son of Godfrey de Roxtun , one bovate of land in Duffeld, which Adam, the son of Elviva held; rendering yearly one pound of cummin. (c. 1200-10.)

ECCOP and ADELE. Roger Musteile grants to William de Wytheton 'Tofhusum' , viz. one carucate of land with the common of Ecob, within and without the field to the mill of Adele. (c. 1170-80, being witnessed by Alexander, abbot of Kirkstall who died in 1182; but the writing looks 40 or 50 years later and so possibly the deed is a copy.) .

EMLEY, BIRTON, and THORNCLAY. Richard Dronffeld, parson of Heton , Richard de Staynton, chaplain, William Lyle , and William Pelle, chaplain, grant to John, son of Lawrence de Staynton of Lepton , and Cicely his wife, all the lands, &c. in Birton, Emlay, and Thornclay, which they had by the gift of the said John. Dated at Thornclay, 10 July, 7 Hen. IV.

ESTBESWIKE. Thomas de Langefeld grants to sir Brian de Thornill, rector of Bedal , the half of the land and meadow in the village of Estbeswike which William de Langefeld his brother held for a term by demise of Gerard de Collumo to hold for 6 years. Dated at Thornill on St. Martin's day in the winter, 1300.

FARNLAY and WOODHOUSE. Roger de Notton grants to Baldewin the Teuton the whole of his land of Farnlay and Whudehuse within and without the village, being 3 carucates, the fourth of the knight's fee, also the homage and service of William de Ruelay and his heirs, paying yearly three shillings. For this gift the said Baldwin and Margery his wife quit-claim to the said Roger all right in land at Silkeston which she had by the name of dowry of Gilbert de Notton Roger's father and formerly her husband. (c. 1233-40.) .

DARTHYNGTON and WENTBRIDGE. Sir Brian Sanforth, kt., appoints Robert Derkyn and Richard Thwayt his attorneys to deliver seisin to John Secroft of Wentbrigg and Margaret his wife of all those lands in Wentbrigg and Darthyngton, which the said Brian had lately by the gift of John Tikhill of Wentbrigg . Dated 12 Oct., 23 Hen. VI.

GRAYSTAN. Richard, son of Adam de Screnam , grants to Robert, son of Hugh , for 5 marks, 5 acres of land in his croft in the middle place of Graystan up to Godefrayheved. Should the said Robert's wife Matilda survive him, she is to have her third part for her life. (c. 1240.)

GRIMESTON. Andrew de Grimeston, clerk, grants to Thomas de Grimeston, clerk, one piece of his close in Grimeston. Witness. Hugh, vicar of Garton, then dean of Holderness . (c. 1250-60.) .

Alice and Ysabella, daughters and heirs of Richard, son of Alan de Grymestone , confirm and quit-claim to Thomas de Grymestone, clerk, two bovates of land with a toft and croft in the village of Grymestone, which they held from the same Thomas, and which came to them from their father; and also all their right in one acre which Richard le Marchant bought of Alan the Miller . (c. 1260.) .

William, son of Ralph de Grymeston , grants to Thomas de Grymeston, clerk, a close in Grymeston, together with two ridges of meadow, a toft, croft, and two bovates of land in the same village. (c. 1250-1260.) .

GUTHMUNDHAM. Walter de Roclif of Barethorp , Thomas de Clyf, rector of the church of Guthmundham , and Hugh Colvell, chaplain, grant to Thomas de Grymestone of Guthemundham , one toft with a croft and bovate of land in le Romondflathe in Guthmundham between the manor of the late Gerard de Grymestone, knt. and a toft called Proctour place; and also one little platte of two acres in Esthorpe. Dated at Guthmundham, 29 May, 4 Hen. IV.

HAGHE. Richard, son of Hugh del Haghe , grants to William his son and Anabella, daughter of Adam de Tumbholme , wife of the said William, certain land with a tenement and toft at Haghe, which he held of William, son of Roger del Holme . (c. 1270-80.) .

HALIFAX. The will of John Schay of Halyfax , dated 4 June, 14 Henry VII. Proved at Dewsbure, 17 June, 1499.
