The testimony of six witnesses concerning the title of Oseney to the church of Stone.

Robert de Bracy confirms to the abbot and convent of Oseney lands &c. in Stone which they have of the fee of sir William de Roos, knight. (c. 1314.) [Mutilated.] Same witnesses as to the next deed ⟨(Ch. 193)⟩.

Robert de Bracy , son and heir of Roger de Bracy of Stone , confirms to the church and canons of Oseney all donations and concessions which his ancestors made to them, viz. in the fields of Stone one ... and the advowson of the church of Stone with all tithes, &c. Dated 7 Ed. II. [Mutilated.] .

STONE and HARTWELL. Richard Pykot de la Forde and Hugh atte Temple de la Mershe grant to John Bracy of Stone and Alina his wife the half of their lands, rents, tenements, &c., in the parishes of Stone and Hertwell, which they inherited from Robert Sencler, senior. Dated at Stone the Friday on the feast of the Holy Innocents, 49 Ed. III.

An indenture by which John Bracy of Stone and Alina his wife enfeoffs William, vicar of Kidlington , Eli, vicar of Wycomb , Ralph Hales , and John Worton , with certain lands in Stone and Hertwell which were Robert Sender's, sen., and after his death descended by heirship to Richard Pykot de la Forde and Hugh atte Temple de la Merssh . Dated at Stone on the feast of St. Matthew, evang., 11 Ric. II.

John Bryan, citizen of London , and John his son, recite that whereas William, vicar of Cudlington , Ralph Hale , and John Worton , hold one toft 8 acres of land in Stone and Hertwell in demesne as of fee, and John Bracy and Alina his wife hold for their life one messuage one carucate of land and 12 acres of meadow in the same villages, the reversion belonging to the said William, Ralph, and John, which said lands, &c. are held of the said John and John by an annual payment of 9s., by this charter they grant license to the said William, Ralph, and John to enable them to assign the said lands to the abbot and convent of Oseney. Dated 10 February, 13 Ric. II.

Final concord, dated at Weston, 12 Hen. IV, between William, the abbot, and convent of Oseney, of one part, and John Pygot and Marian his wife, and Robert May and Ellen his wife, of the other part, concerning one messuage and two carucates of land, and 24 acres of meadow in Stone, by which the right of the abbot and convent to the same is recognised by the said parties, they receiving 100 marks of silver.

STONE and KIMBELL (Great). Composition (indented) between John, the abbot, and convent of Oseney, and Robert, the abbot, and convent of Missenden, being an exchange of the tithes of Stone and Great Kymbell. Dated 10 July, 1459.

An indenture between Richard, the abbot, and convent of Oseney, of the one part, and William Venour of Donyngton, co. Bucks , and Richard Venour his son, of the other part, being a lease of the rectory of Stone, near Aylesbury, for 24 years at an annual rent of £20. Dated at Oseney on St. Mark's day, 1474.

STOW, co. Gloucester. Henry, son of Lewis , grants to Simon ... acres of arable land lying in the field called ... of Stow, ... paying annually to him and his heirs eight pence, and giving now 16s. 8d. (c. 1240-50.) [Mutilated.] This fragment is not a charter of Stow (as in Calendar, p. 368) nor is it an Oseney charter. It is about St. Giles, Oxford and is a St. Frideswide charter. It is to be found in Wigram, Cart. St. Frideswide, I, p. 423, ⟨no. 603⟩. [Handwritten note by Rev. H. Salter, 9 July 1907, between pp. 142-143 of the annotated copy of Turner and Coxe, Calendar.]

Robert le Bel of Stowe grants to Robert le Bel his son and heir one virgate of land in ..., which Robert de Toreny gave to him, for his homage and service, at an annual rent of one pound of cummin, and an acquittance from all regal service. Witness. Thomas, abbot of Winchcombe . (c. 1230.) [Mutilated.] This fragment is not about Stow (as in Calendar, p. 368) but about Turkden, Glouc. It is almost identical with MS. Ch. Oseney 224. Oliver, bp. of Lincoln , to master John le Fleming , Josceline de Kirningston, and Walter de Wutton , canons of Lincoln, appointing them judges in all causes and actions [concerning the patronage of the church of Stowe?]. Dated 2 Kl. May, 1291, at Stowe Park. [Mutilated.] This fragment is not about the church of Stow (as in Calendar, p. 369) but "Dat' apud Parcum Stowe", i.e. Stow Park, the bishop's palace near Lincoln. [Handwritten note by Rev. H. STOW and BIBURY, co. Glouo. A fragment of an episcopal confirmation to the abbey of Oseney of the churches of Stow and Bibury, formerly belonging to the church of St. George. Dated Sept. 14. Temp. Hen. IV or V.

An obligation, indented, between the abbot and convent of Oseney and the abbot and convent of Bittlesden, that they will abide by the award of the abbot of Westminster and the dean of Oxford concerning tithes in Dodford belonging to the church of Stow. Dated 12 July, 15 Ric. II.

THORNTON-LE-STREET, Yorkshire. Mutilated decree of judges appointed by the Pope [Alexander IV] concerning the right to the tithes of the mill of Kilvinton in the parish of Thornton, decreeing annual payment by the abbey of Eglestone of half a mark to the master and brethren of a hospi. (1249). [The papal letter is dated at Lyons 12 Cal. May, an. VII] .

Thornton, Bucks. Commission addressed to John, bp. of Lincoln , by K. Edward II, concerning a claim to a fourth part of the church of Thornton by Oseney, in a suit between Walter the parson and Malcolm de Chastilon , that the church is valued at eight marks besides a pension of 10s. paid to Oseney. With the return of the bishop, dated at Buckden, 5 Kl. July, 1309.

Sentence of the court of Canterbury adjudging two parts of the great tithes from the ancient demesne of 'Thornethone' to the abbey of Oseney against a claim by Elgas the rector. Dated at London, 15 June, 1319.

UPTON. Convention between C[lement], the abbot, and convent of Oseney of one part, and Harding de Upton of the other part, by which the said abbot and convent grant to the said Harding one virgate of land in Upton, ... 2 messuages, a field, ... and ten acres of arable land, for his life, paying 6s. annually. (c. 1210-20.) [Mutilated.] .

Convention beween Herding de Upton , and Oseney, by which he delivers to Oseney ... acres of his land in Upton to farm, of that virgate of land which he holds of the said canons. Dated at Stanes, feast of St. John Baptist. ([12]30.) [Fragment.] .

Clemencia, relict of Richard de Uptun , with the counsel and consent of Henry de Dunnitun , quit-claims to William her son, the said son of Richard de Upton, all right in three acres and a half of land in the fields of Uptun. (c. 1240-50.) .

Indenture by which the abbot and convent of Oseney demise to Richard ... their rectory, &c. of Upton, with a croft called West crofte for ... years at an annual rent of £22. (Temp. Hen. VI.) [Mutilated.] .

At a court held at Upton, co. Berks, 5 October, 16 Hen. VII, Rich. Newington took of the lord one messuage and half a virgate of land in the village and fields of Upton, lately in the tenure of William Rychemond , to have and to hold according to the custom of the manor.

WESTBURY. Walter Line of Westbury , son of William the carter, of Schaldeston , grants to Sibil his daughter a messuage with a curtilage adjoining, in Westbury, which he had in exchange from William, son of Osebert the smith . Dated ... the Sunday next before the feast of St. Andrew the apostle, 24 [Edw. I.] Witn. Jordan Bastard of Westbury .

Indenture between the abbot and convent of Oseney of the one part, and sir Thomas Laurence, vicar of Westbury , of the other, witnesseth that the abbot and convent have demised to T. L. their portion of the tithes of Westbury, he paying annually 23s. 4d. to hold the same so long as he continues vicar of Westbury. Dated at Oseney on the feast of St. Cuthbert, bp., 16 Hen. VI.
