BACTON. Charter by which .... son of ... de Bacton (Baketun) grants and quit-claims to sir Simon Peche and his heirs, all right in a messuage and one acre of land in Bacton (Baketun); for this quit-claim the said sir Simon gave 20s. of silver. (c. 1260-70.)

BARNEBY. Richard Grave (?) of Barnby (Barneby) grants to John Brufleth of Karleton, John Voculd (?) of Gisleham (Gusselham), and John Danyel of Karleton one inclosure lying in Barnby (Barneby). Dated at Barnby (Barneby) the Saturday after the feast of SS. Vedastus and Amand, 45 Ed. III. [Partly effaced.]

Hugh atteHallegate of Bury St Edmunds (St. Edmund) grants to Walter del Brasynof Bury St Edmunds (St. Edmund), for his fealty and service and 14s. of silver, one half acre of arable land in the fields of Barton Mills (Bertone); paying annually for the same one penny. (c. 1240-50.)

Sir William de Gimi⟨n⟩gham, kt., grants to Walter, son of John de Geytune, his nephew, one messuage with a croft in the village of Great Barton or Barton Mills (Bertone); paying annually for the same 3d. (c. 1260-70.)

BARTON. Semann, son of Reginald de Berton, grants to Roger his son, for his homage and service, that toft in the village of Great Barton or Barton Mills (Berton) of his fee which lies between the parson's croft on the one part, and his own croft on the other, with the adjacent land, computed at 7 roods, which Peter, son of Osbert de Wridewell, clerk, held of same by the gift of Walter the chaplain, his uncle, and which the said Peter quitclaimed to him; also he grants to the said Roger 2 acres of his land in the fields of Great Barton or Barton Mills (Berton); paying annually to the church of Great Barton or Barton Mills (Berton) 6d., and to him and his heirs 2d. BARTON (Little). Ralph, son of Andrew Canewaz of Barton Mills (Bertone), chaplain, grants to Peter, son of Geoffrey Canewaz, for his homage and service and 10 marks in hand paid, the whole of his messuage and lands lying in Barton Mills (Bertone), and his fishery paying annually 15d. (c. 1260-70.)

BAWDSEY (?). Ranulf le Gardener of Bawdsey (Baudris)' grants to Cecilia, his daughter and heir, one piece of his arable land in the village of Bawdsey (Baudris)'. Dated at Bawdsey (Baudris)' the Wednesday next after the feast of St. Margaret, virgin, 21 Ed. I.

BEESTON, co. Norfolk. Edmund Mortoft of Beston grants to John Coche of Costessey (Cossay), sir Robert Clere, kt., and others, to the use of the said John, one tenement called Corpesties and land in Beston. Dated at Beston, 8 October, 12 Hen. VII (1496). [See Norfolk, MS. Ch. Suffolk 12.]

BECCLES. Matilda, late wife of William Nicole of Beccles, spycer, appoints Richard, the parson of South Elmham, and William Uprych, her attorneys to deliver seisin in her name of one plot of land in Beccles, to John le Neve of Brundish (Brundysh), chaplain, and John le Neve of Wilby (Wylebeye). Dated at Hinderclay (Hildercle), 17 May, 16 Ed. III (1342).

BECCLES and ENDEGATE. Composition between John Attezate, rector of Beccles, and John Stowe, rector of Endgate, concerning the tithes of the two villages of Beccles and Endgate. Dated at Beccles, 2 April, 1319.

Katherine Rose, formerly wife of Thomas Rose of Beccles (Becclis), confirms to sir William de Ely, parson of Beccles (Becclis), Robert Lyster, and Roger atte Lee, all her messuages, lands, tenements, &c. in the villages of Beccles (Becclis) and Lound (Lounde). Dated at Beccles (Becclis) the Sunday next after the feast of St. Michael, 17 Rich. II.

Declaration by several clergy, the parson of Beccles (Becclys), Edmund Garneys, priest, Robert Grene, priest, Adam Fraunceys, priest, and others that certain evidence in a box under a part of their seals, relating to Robert Boys of Blundeston (Blunston) and Joan his wife, are true and credible. Dated 30 March, 2 Rich. III (1485). [Mutilated.]

The order and award of Richard Jenkenson, Robert Glover, Charles Sucklinge, esquires, and Daniell Walters, gent., made 12 April, 19 James I (1621), between William Langton, the president, and fellows of Magdalen College, Oxford, of the one part, and William Sydnor the younger of the other, respecting the manor of Caldecott Hall (Caldecote Hall). PETTHAUGH, STONHAM ASPAL, and CROWFIELD. William Jorald of Debenham demises to John Kebyl of Caxton (Caxston), John Cachepoll, senior, and Robert Laneman of Stonham Aspal (Stonham), all those lands and tenements called 'Sowterys' lying in the villages of Pettaugh (Pethaugh), Stonham Aspal (Stonham Aspall), and Crowfield (Croffeld). Dated at Stonham Aspal (Stonham Aspall) on the feast of St. Gregory, 13 Ed. IV.

BOYTON. Thomas, son of Osbert de Hopetune, grants to Roger, son of Osbert, and his heirs, all right in the whole of a tenement which Osbert his father possessed of the fee of the ancestors of the said Roger, in Boyton (Boytune). (c. 1220-30.)

William Bule of Brandeston (Branttestune) grants to William Daco of Cretingham (Gretingham), for 7s 6d. all his right in two pieces of land in the village of Brandeston (Brantestune) which Richard his father formerly held, from Roger Daco, father of the said William. (c. 1220-30.)

⟨Brandeston (?)⟩. Henry, the prior, and convent of the church of B. Mary, Wodebregge, grant to Thomas de Bosco ('Wood') of Brandeston (Brandestone) and Alice his wife for 20s. and paying annually two pence an old ditch ("foream") surrounding the messuage of the aforesaid Thomas and Alice, containing ten perches and ten feet, the perch containing 24 feet in width one foot. Dated at Brandeston the Wednesday next before the feast of St. Edmund, 35 Ed. I.

Power of attorney to Robert Cook, vicar of Brandeston, from William Walle, Thomas Chaumpnays, and John Wylde chaplain of Brandeston to give seisin of two pieces of land in Brandeston to John Barnagge, jun., and John Glewman, their heirs, &c. Dated at Brandeston the Sunday next after the Epiphany, 2 Hen. VI.

John Chapman of Brandeston demises and confirms to John Wylde chaplain, William Grellyng and William Holm tenement Feverell in Brandeston with a close and field adjoining. Dated at Brandeston the Monday next before the feast of the Nativity of B. V. M., 6 Hen. VI "incipiente".

⟨Brockford (?)⟩. BROCKFORD. William Keyman of Brockford (Brocford) grants to Roger de Bertone, clerk, for 2s. 3d. the whole of the service that Thomas Gernun owed to him and his heirs, namely, three-pence from the fee of Peter de Hollegate, paying annually one halfpenny. (c. 1230-40.)
