WATCOMBE, near Watlington. An inquiry having been directed by the Pope to be made by the abbots of Missenden and Abingdon, R., the prior of Kenilworth , whether the abbot and convent of Preaux have erected a chapel at Wadcumbe, notwithstanding the prohibition of R., archbp. of Canterbury , and to execute a decree prohibiting divine offices being celebrated there if such should be the case; witnesses on the part of the abbot and convent of Oseney having been examined, an injunction is given to Richard de Eilesberi , deputy ("vice") of the archdeacon of Oxford to prohibit all such celebration in the chapel. (c. 1190.) .

WATLINGTON, Oxon. Judgment given in favour of Oseney by master John Cornwall , and master Robert de Melumer , in a tithe cause] between the abbot and canons of Oseney and Jordan de Hameldene , concerning the tithes of all the moveables which the same Jordan had in the parish of Watlinton, which he claims to be tithe-free on land held under the abbey of Preaux. Dated on the morrow after the synod celebrated about the feast of Michaelmas, 1192.

William, son of Helias de Hettecumbe , grants to the church and canons of Oseney, in frankalmoigne, three acres of land in Watlintone, viz. one acre near Wuestorn under the way, one acre above Ikenild between the two ways, and a croft which is to the east of Ferncroft, near the house of his mother, to hold to him and his heirs, paying annually 1/2 lb. cummin. (c. 1190-1200.) .

Maein, son of Hugh le Brech , grants to the church of St. Mary of Wathlintone, and to the canons of Oseney, in frankalmoigne, two acres of land which the same canons had of the gift of his grandfather and father, whereof one lies in Winethorn, and another under Ikenild at Sorteforlung; also he grants to them one acre which lies near the two 'Bergas' above Bretewelle, and also a fourth part of one acre which lies 'a la flete' between Peritone and Watlintone, to hold the same for an annual rent of 12d. for all service. (c. 1200-10.) .

Hugh de Syresfeld grants to the abbot and convent of Oseney, one acre of land in the field of Watlintune, viz. in a culture which is called Chelhurst which Geoffrey de Syresfeld held. (c. 1220.) .

A certificate from A[dam], abbot of Evesham , and E., prior of Reading , addressed to W[alter], bp. of Lincoln , concerning a cause of vexation by the canons of Oseney to sir William, knight of Hameldene , relating to the tithes of Wadecumbe, by which they release the said knight from the vexation of the said canons. (1183-84.) .

Osbert de Hameledene by authority of a letter of Pope Honorius III, from the abbot and convent of Oseney, in a cause trial at Oxford before S[imon], abbot of Thame and N[icholas] and R[obert], priors of Eynesham and Berncestre, concerning the tithes of the whole of his demesne of Watecumbe, acknowledges for himself and heirs that the said tithes appertain to the church of Watlington, and by this present writing grants and confirms the same to the abbot and convent of Oseney. [1216-1225.] .

Letter of Pope nearly obliterated, indorsed 'De decimis de Watlinton'; relating to the subraction from the letter of five hides belonging to the abbey of Preaux.

Mary’s Wallingford; (ii) the manors of Wyng and Swanburn [Bucks] 200 acres of land, 300 acres of pasture, 60 acres of meadow, 60 acres of wood, 200 acres of fields and £6 rent in W. and S. and the advowson of W.; (iii) the manor of Chalkford [in Aston Rowant, Oxon.], 2 water-mills, 20 messuages, 500 acres of land, 100 acres of pasture, 50 acres of meadow, 60 acres of wood, 200 acres of fields and £20 rent in C., Aston Rowant, Stoken-church, Northstoke, Besyngton, Chynnor, Oxford, Brightwelle, Watlyngton, Rytherfeld Pyppard [Rotherfield Peppard], Hudders-buddys, Coxham, Helcombe, Bensyngton, Chalford, Stanlake, Chalgrave, Stokebasset, Newenham, Mapylle Derhame, Henley, Wynhale, Crowmershe, Nettlebed and Nuffeld, and the advowsons of Chynnor, Garsyngton and Aston Rowant, and the chapel of Stokenchurch. ⟨18 Nov. 1528.⟩

Oxford, St. Michael at North Gate. Dorchester Abbey grants to Oseney a grove in Watlington and land in St. Michael's. c. 1240-4

An agreement between Oseney and the abbot and convent of Becco concerning the tithes near Cookley in Swyncombe where the parishes of Watlington and Swyncombe touch.

Richard, bishop of Lincoln confirms to Oseney his predecessors grants of the churches of Westona, Cestertona, Hamptona Gay, Watlingtona and chapels in Burtona, Forsthulle, and an annual pension of 10s. from the church of Ibbestan. June 13, 1263.
