William of Haregrave of Stoke Goldington, chaplain, grants to R⟨avenstone⟩ all his inheritance in Stoke, Ikelee, Pyddington and Weston, with a messuage and 30 acres of land which he had of the gift of Nicholas the smith of R⟨avenstone⟩ . Articles of enquiry concerning lands, &c. in the hundred of Gildisburg [co. Northampton] held by those who had taken part in the late disturbances (turbatio regni) of the earl of Leicester, against the king. (c. 1270.)

LEICESTER (Abbey of St. Mary Pre). Indenture made 16 August, 28 Hen. VIII, by which John, the abbot, and convent of the monastery of our Lady in the medows of Leicester, grant to Robert Grenwod of Sigresham a messuage and 2 yards of land in the town and fields of Sigresham for 31 years at an annual rent of 30s. 4d.

BUCKBY (Long). Particulars of a parcel of lands and possessions of the manor of Long Buckebye, belonging to the Queen, antiently part of the duchy of Lancaster, formerly in the tenure of Roger Carrell or his assigns by lease from the duchy, of which lease 8 years were unexpired in 1602.

HARDINGSTONE and COTES. Roger, son of master Roger de Boudon , the 26 of March, 17 Ed. II, grants and assigns in dower, for himself and heirs, to Isabella , his mother, formerly wife of the said master Roger, a certain house and the third part of a grange, dovecot, 6s. annual rent, together with certain parcels of land in Hardingstorn and Cotes. Dated at Cotes in the parish of Hardingstorn the day and year above written.

Indenture, between Robert, son of sir Edward Doyle, kt. , on the one part, and William Driffeld of Northampton, deyster, Agnes his wife, and John , Thomas , and Agnes , their children, of the other part, witnessing that the said Robert has granted to the said parties the whole of the close and dovecot opposite the house of St. Leonard in Coton near Northampton, and also a piece of meadow in the meadows of Hardyngesthorn, to hold the same for their lives, and 10 years following the decease of the longest liver of them, at an annual rent of 15s. and the usual suit and service. Dated at Coton, 1 October, 7 Hen. V.

CRICK. Robert de Cursun grants to Alan de Swyneford , for his homage and service, half a virgate of land with appurtenances in Crec, except toft and croft, namely that which Walter Beel held. To hold to him and his heirs for an annual payment of one halfpenny at Easter for all secular service, custom, and demand. (c. 1220-40.) .

Adam le Veneter grants to Alan de Swineford his whole right in one half virgate of land in the village of Crec, namely that which Walter le Bel sometime held; to hold to the said Alan and his heirs as in the charter of sir Robert de Curson , lord of the fee. (c. 1230.) .

COATON. Adam, the abbot, and convent of St. James without Northampton, grant to Henry, son of Robert de Northampton , for his homage and service, a certain tenement in Cotene without Northampton, which Matilda Leman formerly held of them; also they grant all the tenements which they have in Cotene; paying annually to them and their successors 11s. of silver. Witness: sir Simon de Torp, sheriff of Northampton , etc. (c. 1248-50.) .

STOKE. Sir John Daundelyn, kt., grants a release to Robert de Wodeneuton in Stoke [?Doyle], upon consideration of the payment of 22s., of his claim to three roods of arable land in the fields of Stoke in which he had been infeoffed by the said Robert. Dated at Stoke the Wednesday next after the feast of St. James the apostle, 16 Ed. II.

West-Haddon. John de Brochol, vicar of Westhaddon , grants to D⟨aventry⟩ in free alms the whole of his tenement in W⟨esthaddon⟩ , which he once held of Sir Eustace de Watford for homage and service. Witnesses: Eustace Golafre of Watford , Richard son of Peter of Holm , Ralph son of Walter , Ralph son of Herbert , Robert the clerk , Stephen le freman , Stephen son of Simon . ⟨1220–30.⟩

Buckby. Philip Grece of Buckby , son of William Grece , grants to D⟨aventry⟩ in free-alms 12d. rent which they used to pay him for land which David, son of Ailmer held of the monks of the grantor’s fee in B⟨uckby⟩ . Witnesses: Simon fitz-Philip of D⟨aventry⟩ , Henry chaplain of D⟨aventry⟩ , Symon Campioun , Jordan the clerk of Draiton , Hugh Baiuel , Symon of Foxtun , Nigel, Jordan of London , William the clerk . ⟨c. 1200–1210.⟩

Thrupp. James, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ , grants to Geoffrey Caterich and his heirs of Trop for his homage and service, the virgate in T⟨hrupp⟩ which Henry his father held, for a mark down and half a mark of silver a year. He shall mow, reap and plough three times in the year. Witnesses: William de D⟨aventry⟩ , Ralph de Trop , Roger G——, Warner of Trop , Henry the knight, Simon Campioun , Nigel, Roger the porter . ⟨1210–25.⟩

Indenture by which D⟨aventry⟩ grants to Thomas ... half their manse and toft which Alberic once held of them in D⟨aventry⟩ . Rent 4/- and one man’s work 3 days in the year (i.e. one mowing, two reaping). Witnesses: Nigel, ... Gemme , John Baiwel , Henry the cook , William Plumstone , Geoffrey Long , Henry the smith , William the butcher , ——, Robert de Neubolt . ⟨c. 1200–20.⟩

Norton. Sir Philip of D⟨aventry⟩ grants to Sir Nicholas, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ , in free alms, that virgate in Norton which Richard his brother has given them to farm (for 10 marks) for 10 years. Witnesses: [as in MS. Ch. Northants. Daventry 240.] ⟨5 Aug. 1263.⟩

Staverton. Nicholas, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ , called to warranty by Emma Crok , recognizes by a fine made at Northampton the right of William de Morton in a moiety of half a virgate and a messuage in Staverton held at a rent of 18d. for the prior after an assize of mort d’ancestor had been summoned between them. For this William gave the prior ½ mark. ⟨18 Oct. 1240.⟩

West-Haddon. Robert Dolyn of Westhaddon grants to William son of Geoffrey the cook the same 2 roods of land in W⟨est⟩ H⟨addon⟩ , viz. one over Puttelesculde by the land of John Herberd , and one rood in Colecroft by the land late of Gilbert Mervyn . Drayton. Robert son of Roger de Navesby , quit-claims to D⟨aventry⟩ his right in 15½ acres and 1 half rood, and 1 half acre of meadow in Drayton which Alice his mother gave them in free alms. Drayton. John Scop in the new land of D⟨aventry⟩ , grants to Matilda and Emma his sisters all right he might have hereditarily in land which fell to Richard Scop in D⟨aventry⟩ , and a messuage by John of Knoston ’s ‘placea’. Witnesses: John fitz-Philip , Simon de aula , Thomas de pistrina , Thomas le ..., John Godchep . ⟨c. 1300–20.⟩

West-Haddon. Margery, widow of R⟨obert⟩ D⟨olyn⟩ , quit-claims to the same, her right in a third part of two roods, of her dower in W⟨esthaddon⟩ , viz. one over Colecroft by the land of William de Ravenestrop , and the other over le Lonewronge by the land of John Herbert , for a certain sum of money. Witnesses: John Herbert , Richard Walter , William of cotes , John le Freman , John of Stowe . ⟨c. 1310–20.⟩

The Hall Tenement. John Tresham , Thomas Stafford , and Thomas Halle , grant to Thomas Emson, esq., John Dey, clerk, John Chauncy , Robert Chauntrell , and Robert Skypton , all their lands in Newenham, Daventre, and Drayton. To hold the same for the uses declared in the last will of the said Thomas Halle . 20 Oct. ⟨1507.⟩

Preston. Memorandum of a return made by the archdeacon of Northampton to R., bp. of Lincoln , that whereas Geoffrey de Hanvyle had presented Matthew de Glynham, King’s clerk, to the rectory of Preston, by an inquiry it was found that the said rectory was not vacant and that the patronage belonged to D⟨aventry⟩ .
