The collection catalogued in 1878 comprised MSS. Ch. Scotland 1-6, of unrecorded provenance; Ch. 5-6 belonged by Ralph Thoresby (see further the collection overview for Yorkshire).

MSS. Ch. Scotland 7-24 are later accessions from a variety of sources. Ch. 8-12 are seals or casts of seals only.
