COLESWORD. Writ of King S[tephen] to R[oger], bishop of Salisbury, the sheriff of Wilts , and others, granting to the monks of Gloucester a wood and 2 assarts with fields adjacent in his manor of Celesw[o]rd in frankalmoigne, in the same manner as William his uncle, as is witnessed by the charter of King Henry. Dated, R. chancellor, at Buref. (c. 1136-38.)

LONGENEYE. Stephen, son and heir of Robert Agu of Longeneye , with the consent of his father, acknowledges to have endowed Agnes, daughter of William Saundres of Longeneye , his wife, at the church door of Longeneye, on Wednesday next after the feast of St. Barnabas the apostle, 5 Ed. III, being the day he espoused her, with the third part of a messuage and one virgate of land in Longeneye.

Licence to Tewkesbury, because Gilbert de Clare, earl of Gloucester and Hertford, the king’s nephew, was buried there, to appropriate the churches of Thornbury and Fayreford. 20 Nov. ⟨1314.⟩

Letters patent of Walter, bp. of Worcester , relating the many causes of the poverty of Theokesbury, and giving licence to appropriate the church of Thornbury, having due regard to the rights of the then rector, master Roger called the Marshal , and assessing the church at 26 marks a year. Given at London. ⟨11 Feb.⟩ 1314.

Walter, bishop of Worcester , assigns to the vicarage of Thornbury, which is worth 18 marks 10 shillings, the house once held by Zalibroun, as a vicarage house. The value to be made up to 25 marks in money or wax. The vicar is to pay for books, vestments, and other necessary ornaments, synodal fees to the Archdeacon, and 4 marks a year to the bishop, but is not to be responsible for the repair of the chancel. ⟨12 Aug. 1315.⟩ Endorsed with references to cases in chancery, A.D. 1750 and 1813.

South Stoke. Letters patent confirming to the abbey of Eynsham the advowsons of Abbots’ Stoke, Newenton, Sewel, and Combe (Oxon.), for 100 marks paid into the hanaper, and a new altar in memory of the late queen. Cf. Eynsham Cartulary, nos. 733–7. 12 Dec. ⟨1397.⟩

Westwell [Oxon.]. John de St. Philibert, knight, grants to William de Edyndone, bishop of Winchester (i) the manor of Westwelle in Oxfordshire, with knights’ fees and park in Etone, and (ii) the manor of Thormartone in Gloucestershire, with the advowson of the church of Thormartone and knights’ fees. Witnesses: John Landels , Walter de Haywode , Thomas de Colshulle , Philip le Parker , John Crooke . Given at Suthwerk. ⟨29 May 1351.⟩
