Mendlesham (Mendlesham etc). 1205-1235. Grant from Geoffrey Dorliens and Agatha his wife, to John, son of Roger Prech, of two acres of land, called Orlienescroft, held of the house of Snape at a yearly rent 16d. The said John is to pay a yearly rent of 16d. and half a pound of pepper, at the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin, and to be responsible to the prior and monks of Snape for the rent due to them; and has done homage and paid a fine of 19s. of silver [1205-35] Witnesses. Walter le Flameng, Richard and John, his sons, Hubert Cordebof, Ranulf of Becclinger, Richard le Man, John Squier; Radulf, Walter, Roger, servants of Snape, and many others. The seal is wanting.
