In a case heard before the bishop of Lincoln’s official in the church of All Saints, Northampton, between D⟨aventry⟩ (actor) by master Roger de Bendone their proctor, and John Mallory, lord of Weltone , Symon Tuwe of the same, Robert Ace , Richard le Heir , Robert de Dunstone , Richard Martin , Richard the marshal , Henry son of Wille (sic) of the same (accused) by William de Baddeby, clerk, their proctor, by reason of burials in the chapel of Welton. Previous hearing by bishop of Lincoln at Bostone Stayers. Case postponed to [4 July] in S. Margaret’s, Leicester. ⟨7 June⟩ 1291.

Mandate of the official of the court of Canterbury to the Bishop of Lincoln’s Official, to cite the prior, &c., of D⟨aventry⟩ to appear at the court of the Arches on the next court-day after S. Andrew [30 Nov.] since the proctor of John Maulore [&c.] has complained [&c.]. ⟨10 Aug.⟩ 1291. Endorsed: ’Venit apud Norht’. 7 Ides Novembrie 1291’ [7 Nov.]. [Partly obliterated.]

Welton. The bishop of Lincoln’s official acknowledges a mandate from the official of the court of Canterbury received on 7 Ides. Nov. [see D. 120]. He has cited them to appear on the next law-day after S. Andrew the Apostle. Given at London. ⟨28 Nov.⟩ 1291.

The dean of D⟨aventry⟩ acknowledges a citation of Symon de Wymundham and Reginald de Heydone , officials of the court of Canterbury (sede vacante) for John Maulore , Simon of Tywe , Robert Ace , Richard le Heyr , Robert de Dustone , Richard Martyn , Richard the marshal , Thomas the clerk , Henry ale Grene , Richard Brown , Richard Lovel , William Brun , John super montem , Richard his brother, Henry son of William , Thomas the marshal , William son of Robert King , Henry Slay , William son of Thomas the miller , Richard Vincent , Agnes wife of Robert of Dustone , Eustace the porter , Alice wife of John Ingeland , Thomas the clerk of the same, ’ac totam communitatem ville de Welton’, to appear at the court of the Arches before the court-day after the Sunday on which is sung ’misericordia domini’. In the cause [&c.]. Given at London [10 April] 1294. The Dean has executed this mandate, but John Maulore and Henry Slay are now dead. Given at D⟨aventry⟩ . ⟨21 April⟩ 1294.

Welton. Sentence of the dean of the Arches against the parishioners of Welton. The lord of W⟨elton⟩ and his accomplices had buried a certain Adam the reeve of W⟨elton⟩ in the cemetery there. His body or bones, and the body or bones of any one buried there after him, are to be exhumed, and buried by the monks in a suitable place. The parishioners are also to pay 30 marks costs to the monks. Endorsed: ’Lat’ fuit ista sentencia 12 Kal’ Augusti [12 July] Anno [&c.] 1296 Fodringh’.’

Welton and Thorp. Philip son of Robert son of Roon of Hocton confirms to D⟨aventry⟩ land in Welleton and in Trop which his father gave them in free alms, and releases them from 10/- which they used to pay his father for the forinsec service of the said land, and for which Robert de Braibroc attorned them. Witnesses: Walter fitz- Simon fitz-Walter , William of D⟨aventry⟩ , Simon Campion , Nigel, Geoffrey Campioun of Weletone , Roger the porter , Alan Gemme , William Gemme , John Baiuel . ⟨1210–25.⟩

Welton and Thorp. Henry de Braibroc quit-claims to J⟨ames⟩ prior of D⟨aventry⟩ to the monks 10/- rent which ’J’ had in Weletona and Trop of the fee of Berkhampstead. Welton. Simon Vitor son of Simon Vitor of Northampton grants in free alms to D⟨aventry⟩ the land which Richard Luvel holds from him in Welton, which he had of the gift of John Gemme at a rent of 8/-. The monks are to pay him 12d. a year and the ’hostilarius’ of D⟨aventry⟩ is to receive the 8/- a year from Richard Luvel .
