PIKERINGLYTH. Final concord made at Westminster in the octaves of St. Hilary, 20 Ed. II, and on the quindene of St. Trin., 1 Edw. III, before the king's justices, between John de Crayk, parson of Spofford , and sir Gilbert de Aton, kt., concerning the manors of Aton, Hoton Buscell, Wyntryngham, and Grumpton in Pykerynglyth, conveying them to the said Gilbert and his heirs.

John de Wythington and Margary his wife demise to Robert de Conyers all the lands &c. in Norton, Hoton, Hoigne (?), Orden, Sall, Heton, Skales, and Armeley, with rents and services of Melmorby, of which the said Margery was seised as dowry, paying £18 yearly during the lives of the said John and Margery. Dated at Hoton the Friday next before Palm Sunday, 1340.

ROSSE. Indenture made 7 March, 6 James I, by which sir William Cecill, lord Burghley , grants to sir Robert Dormer , sir John Dormer , and sir William Dormer , an annual rent-charge of £240 issuing out of the manor of Rosse in the county of York, for 10 years, or during the lives of sir John Hobart , Barbara his wife, and John their son.

ROSTON. Baldwin de Wicham and Hugh son of Hugh , and Roger son of Roger , and Robert son of William, and Ralph Buscell grant to Eustace de Vescy for 5s. a certain turbary in the territory of Roston which is called 'Ludeparcc', paying annually one penny. (c. 1200-10.) .

Isabella and Alice, daughters and heirs of Emma la Rus of Roston , grant to Peter, son of Alan de Roston , the whole of their toft in Roston and half of a perch of land at Boudalemun, and all their right in six bovate which they hold of the King in capite. (c. 1290.)

William, son of Ralph de Ruston , and Sibilla his wife grant to Robert le Baker of Aton four cottages lying in Ruston in Pikeringlyth. (c. 1290-1300).

Simon de Aton grants to John, son of Ralph the carpenter of Roston , and Tylla his wife and Thomas his son one toft in Roston in Pykeringlyth, and one acre and 2 roods of arable land in the same village; with remiander to Alice his daughter. Dated at Roston in Pykeringlyth, on Trinity Sunday, 1331.

Alan, son of Ralph de Hoton, abiding in Rostone , grants to Simon de Aton all his parcels of lands and meadow belonging to one bovate called "Mopeoxgange" in Roston and Wykham in Pikeringlyth. Dated at Roston in Pikeringlyth, 14 May, 1340.

Alan, son of Ralph de Hoton, abiding in Roston , remits to Simon de Aton all right and claim which he had in one bovate of land in Roston and Wikham in Pikeringlyth, called Mopeoxgange, which he had by the gift of William son of Ralph de Roston . Dated at Roston in Pikeringlyth, 2 August, 1340.

Alan, son of Ralph de Hoton Buscell , remits and quit-claims to sir Gilbert de Aton all right in a messuage and two bovates of land, with rents and services of the free tenants of Roston and Wikham in Pikeringlyth, which were formerly William son of Ralph de Roston 's. Dated at Snaynton "in pleno loci wapentachio" the Thursday next after the feast of St. Michael, 1343 - 17 Ed. III.

Robert Passelewe of Ledes grants to sir William de Fynchedene, kt., sir William de Mirfeld, parson of Bradeforth , William de Mirfeld , Richard de Normanton, vicar of Batelay , Hugh de Wombewelle and William de Gldesome , two tofts and two bovates of land in Ruston of which one is called Sekeroxgange and the other Wygfalleoxgange and which he had by the gift of Robert de Erthyngtone. Dated at Ruston the Tuesday next after Palm Sunday, 43 Ed. III.

BURTON. Condition of a bond by which John Staynton is bound in £100 to Laurence Kay that if he do not pay a sum of 18 marks at the feast of St. John the Baptist next, then he shall make a feoffment of all the lands which were William Perot 's in Thornby in the parish of Byrton for 24 marks. Dated 11 March, 12 Henry VI.

ROTHERHAM. Bull of Pope Innocent VI, addressed to the archdeacon of the East Riding, and the chancellor and official of York granting to William Donke the mediety of the vicarage of the parochial church of Rotherham, vacant by the death of William Littester , and unduly held by Robert Mapelbek, a monk of Rufforth . Dated at Avignon 3 Kl. May, 9th year of his pontificate (i.e. 1361).

Robert Inkersell grants to sir Thomas Fitzwilliam, kt., Thomas Fitzwilliam his son and heir, Richard Fitzwilliam , Edward Fitzwilliam, esq., Thomas Reresby son and heir of Ralph Reresby, esq. and John Deit (?) , his capital messuage called Moundesderhall in the parish of Rotherham which he had by the gift of Joan Inkersell, his mother, deceased. Dated at Moundesderhall on the feast of St. Peter in cathedra, 2 Hen. VII.

ROTHWELL. Indenture between William Calverley , John Burton , Richard Pek , Water Baildon , and Thomas Gargrave , esqs., feoffees of William Watson , of one part, and George Box, esq., of the other part, witnesseth that the said feoffees have demised to George Box a close and 100 acres of land in Lofthouse near Rothwell for six years, paying 6 marks yearly. Dated 24 November, 10 Hen. VII.

Inquisition taken on the death of Robert Tailler son and heir of John Tailler at Rothwell, dated 7 April 3 Elizabeth. Held lands at Lofthouse in Rothwele, for which he paid 10s. yearly to two almshouses at Leeds. His heirs are his three sisters, Sibella, Elizabeth and Margaret).

SALDEN. Robert de Arturret, son of Ralph de Beremund , attorns Bernard de Ripele and his heirs to his lord Eustace de Vesci to make to him and his heirs the service of a 13th part of one knight's fee for two carucates of land which he gave him in Salden. (c. 1190-1200.) (31 witnesses) ("e heredes", "e heredibus", so written all through the charter) .

Thomas Chaymang of Brunton grants to Thomas de Dales, abiding in Salden , that land which he has at Fukedal which extends from the valley of Salden to uns... Buttes, in exchange for land in the marsh. (Very singular hand, with several mis-spellings.) (c. 1290-1300.) .

William Porter, abiding in Saldan , grants to sir Gilbert de Aton all his goods and chattels in a certain messuage in Saldan in Pykeringlyth. Dated at Saldan, 6 January, 9 Ed. III.

Sir William de Aton, kt., sen., appoints sir Richard de Hoton, chaplain, his attorney to receive for him and in his name of Richard son of William of Salden in Pykeringlyth seisin of one acre of land, as is contained in a certain writing. Dated at Aton in the vale of Pykering the Tuesday after the feast of the translation of St. Thomas, 3 Rich. II.

SEDBERGH. The foundation charter and ordinances of the grammar school of Sedbergh, containing the signatures of K. Ed. VI, E. Somerset , T. Cant., R. Ryche, chanc. W. Wilteshr , I. Bedford , W. Northt , E. Clynton , T. Darcy , G. Cobham , T. Ely . (Not dated, mutilated.) .

SETON. William le Wasteneys, lord of Bressingburg , appoints Richard de Herelthorp and William Attebrende his attorneys to place sir John de Lalford in full and peaceable possession of all the lands and tenements &c. which the said William has in the village of Setone. Dated at Coltone in co. Stafford, the Monday next after the feast of St. Andrew, 4 Ed. II.

SCARBOROUGH. Indenture by which William de Tothale, prior of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem , grants to the friars minor of Scartheburg one messuage in Scartheburg, abutting on the town wall. Dated at Melcheburn on St. Barnabas' day, 1300.
