Ninety-eight charters collected by Francis Douce and listed in the 1840 catalogue of his collection (MSS. Douce Ch. 1-98), together with three further charters (Ch. 99-101) "which no doubt belonged to Douce" (Summary Catalogue IV p. 628) added by 1897. Douce's collection of charters has not been studied in detail and the provenance of many items remains to be researched. He is known to have purchased some at the Gustavus Brander sale, February 1790 (see The Douce Legacy (1980), p. 143).
