WILTS. Letters patent of Queen Elizabeth, dated at Westminster, 20 Dec., 39 of her reign, appointing John Dauntesey, esq., sheriff of the county of Wilts . [Belonged to T. Hearne]

BISSHOPSTON. Constat of the exchequer, dated 3 James I, 21 November, that sir Alexander Tutt, kt., sheriff of Wiltshire , has paid of the goods and chattels of Thomas Smythe of Busshopestone, co. Wilts , 100s.

BRUTFORD. John le Foul of Brutford and Joan his wife grant to William le Duyn and Christiana his wife, seven pence annual rent which Thomas Wrench was accustomed to pay for 1 1/2 acre of arable land in the field of Brutford, called Wytheforlang, and which the said Thomas has for his life by demise of Laurence "in the Lane". Dated at Brutford the Tuesday on the feast of St. Matthew, apostle, 6 Ed. III.

Henry Not and Agnes his wife, cousin and one of the heirs of William Wodehay , grant to John Park and Elizabeth his wife, all his lands, tenements, &c. which ought to descend to the said Agnes by the death of the said William Wodehay in Brutford. Dated at Brutford the Wednesday next before the feast of St. Dunstan, 3 Hen. IV.

Final concord made at Westminster on the octave of the Holy Trinity, 22 Rich. II, by which William Wodehay recognises that a third part of the manor of Stanlynch and a messuage and 14 acres, of meadow and 16 acres of pasture in Brytford belongs to Agnes, wife of Henry Not .

John Savage , Robert Porter, capellane, and John Sybsy , grant to Elizabeth, wife of John Park , all lands, &c. which they had of the gift of William Wodehay in Brutford and Stanlich. Dated at Brutford the Saturday after the feast of St. Barnabas, 3 Hen. IV.

CHILTERNE. Letters patent of King Edward VI, dated at Westminster 20 Sept., 1st of his reign, granting various privileges to William Powlet, K.G., Lord St. John, and the manor of Chilterne in Wilts.

DOUNTON. William Walter of Dounton, co. Wilts, husbandman, grants to Richard Hugyn, esq., all his lands and tenements, &c. in Dounton. Dated at Dounton, 16 October, 30 Hen. VI.

CHIPPENHAM. Copy in 15th cent. of decree of Robert de Brantesim [a mistake for Brantestone?], official of Robert, bp. elect of Sarum , concerning the appropriation of the church of Chippenham to the use of the prior and convent of Farleigh, Wilts, and augmenting the vicarage with the tithes of Tyderington, the vicar paying for them 40s. yearly to Farleigh. Dated at Sarum, 16 Kl. May, 1272.

TOTHAM (Great) (Essex). John Gwodman of Monks' Farleigh remits and quit-claims to sir John de Lamare, chaplain of Assche , all his right, &c. in land at Great Totham which, they jointly acquired from James Chapman of Totham . Dated at Monks' Farleigh, 12 March, 48 Ed. III.

LAVINGTON (Bishops). Fine made at New Sarum on the morrow of St. Michael, 9 Ed. I, by which William, son of Geoffrey le Clerk of Lavynton , acknowledges the right of Robert, bishop of Salisbury and his church, to a messuage, hide, and 19 1/2 acres of land and 12s. annual rents in Lavynton, for which the said bishop paid to the said William 25 marks of silver.

LAVINGTON. Presentation by the dean and chapter of Ch. Ch. of John, to the vacant living of Lavington of Christopher Aborrowe, clerk. Dated 10 April, 9 Elizabeth.

LONGLEAT. Certificate of the appointment of Daniel Tonstall, M.A., as domestic chaplain to the earl of Bath. Dated 1690. [Fine impression of the earl's arms.] .

OXFORD. John, the abbot, and convent of Malmesbury confirm to the prior and convent of the Holy Trinity, Norwich, a certain parcel in Oxford near Stokwelle strete in perpetuity, being a house or chamber built by the said priory with two studies ("studis") annexed, reserving the right of passage for the feeding flocks and cattle for the meadow called Longspoot. Dated at Malmesbury, 20 May, 1472.

MILDENHALL. Indenture made 29 November, 1727, by which Katherine Pococke of Mildenhall, widow, demises to Ralph Tabor of Mildenhall, yeoman, copyhold estates known as Burgesses in Mildenhall, Playsteed's, Grandie's and Bowsher's for one year, at a rent of £50. [The foot of this chirograph is in the P.R.O., Common Pleas, Feet of Fines, Series I (C.P. 25(1)). Case 252 File 24 No 2.] [English] .

NETHERAVEN. Fine made at Westminster, 26 Ed. III, and afterward on the quindene of St. Michael an. 28 between John Tot of Netheraven and Alice his wife, plaintiffs, and Roger le Sauser and Joan his wife, defendants, by which the said defendants acknowledge a messuage, 27 acres of land, 1 1/2 acre of meadow, and 20 sheep, in Netheraven, to belong to the said John; and the said plaintiffs quit-claim to the said Roger and Joan all right to a messuage, 20 1/2 acres of land, and 1 acre of meadow. For this quit-claim the said John and Alice gave to Roger and Joan 20 marks of silver.

OKEBOURN (Priory of). A receipt given by Ralph, rector of the church of St. Botulph without Aldrichegate, London , and collector of the annual tenths from the clergy for the king in the diocese of London, to the prior of Okeburn for £4 l0s. 2 1/2d., from the church of Ruisshlepe and from Donton, Fordhem, Wodeham Ferrers, etc. Dated London, 6 Feb. 1374.

STANLYNCH. Nicholas le Duyn grants to William le Duyn his brother the whole of two parts of the mill of Stanlinch, and also of the lands of 'La Mule croft' and Battescrofte, and half a virgate of land in Bereford, of which lands Joan , who was the wife of William le Duyn our father, holds the third part in name of dowry. Dated at Stanlynch on the feast of the Trinity, 12 Ed. II. [In the charter the name Duyn has been altered in ink to something like Boykin .] .

Nicholas le Duyn and Andrew his brother agree to divide between them two parts of a water-mill in Stanlinch, and 2 parts of 14 1/2 acres of land in Bereford and La Mulecrofte, and 2 parts of a field called Battescrofte, which mill and land William le Duyn the father of the said Nicholas and Andrew gave to them and to Thomas le Duyn (deceased) for their lives, and from which Joan the wife of William holds the third part in the name of dowry. Dated at Stanlinch on the feast of the Nativity of our Lord, 12 Ed. II. [In the charter the name Duyn has been altered in ink to something like Boykin .] .

John Columbel, vicar of Brutford , remits and quit-claims to William le Duyn of Stanlynch and Cristina his wife all his right in the half of one piece of ground called 'le Gerdelond.' Dated at Brutford the Tuesday next after the feast of the Ascension of our Lord, 10 Ed. III.

Sir Thomas Bouklond, kt., grants to John Dekne, clerk, all his lands and tenements in Stanlynch, which John Cok and Stephen Geghe held for their lives, for his life, paying annually for the same 17s. 6d. to the grantor during the life of the latter Dated at Radelynche the Saturday in the feast of St. Barnabas the apostle, 47 Ed. III.

Power of attorney to John Bereford and John Driwode from sir Thomas de Bouclonde, kt., to deliver seisin to John Dekne, clerk, of all his lands and tenements, &c. in Stanlynch, co. Wilts. Dated at Radelynch the Saturday in the feast of St. Barnabas, 47 Ed. III.

John Nywe and William Axebrigge , chaplains, grant to Alianor , who was the wife of John Duyn , all lands, &c. in Stanlinche, Brutford, Langeford, and Cherleton, which they had of the feoffment of the said John Duyn , for the term of her life. Dated at Stanlinche the Wednesday next after the feast of St. Dionisius, 48 Ed. III.

John Duyn grants to sir John Nywe , and sir William Axebrigge , chaplains, all his lands, rents, tenements, &c. in Stanlynch, Brutford, Langford, and Cherleton. Dated at Stanlynch, Saturday the last day in the month of September, 48 Ed. III.

Quit-claim from sir Thomas de Bouclonde, kt., to John Dekne , by which he remits all his right ... and heirs, &c. to lands in Stanlynch, which the said John lately had from him for the term of the life of the said John, and which John Bouclonde , the grantor's brother acquired from John Glys . Dated at Radelynch, 6 September, 50 Ed. III.
