MOULESFORD. Mandate of K. Hen. I addressed to Hugh de Bocheland commanding him to allow the monks of Wallingford to have their tithes of Moulesford, and of the land of Henry the larderer , as they held them in the time of K. CLOPCOTE. Alan, son of Amfrid the son of Ruald , grants to the church of Wallingford in frankalmoigne his meadow which was the meadow of his father in Clopcote, lying in the eastern part of the castle before the postern, (c. 1189.) [Printed in the Monasticon, vol. iii. p. 280.]

Geoffrey the Cook of Wareng’ grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms 7 acres of arable land and all his other land in C⟨lapcote⟩ , lying in ’peecam de W.’ on the North, free of all secular service, ’ego enim et heredes mei eam acquietabimus per officium nostrum in coquina’ ... For this gift made for the souls of Brian fitz-Count , his lord, and the lady Matilda his wife, he has received from the monks 60/-, and his son half a mark. Wallingford and Clapcote.. Master Christian of W⟨allingford⟩ , grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms certain lands: (i) ... which Robert son of P...hel’ holds, for 6/6; (ii) ... mill for 4/-; (iii) the other land which Renur the clerk gave to him; (iv) also Walter and Osbert for 2/4; (v) after his death, all his books of the Divine Scriptures. For this they have granted him a daily provision of food and drink for himself [as long as ?] he shall remain a secular, and for his servant according to the provision made for a servant of the priory. Clapcote. Henry de porta grants to William the clerk of W⟨allingford⟩ , for his homage and service one acre of arable land in C⟨lapcote⟩ in Koclingforlong. Rent 1d. Clapcote. Gilbert son of Adam the cooper grants to John of Devonshire that messuage in C⟨lapcote⟩ which R. treasurer of the Hospital [of S. John] with the consent of the chapter confirmed to Adam the cooper, father of the said Gilbert. Rent 12d. to the hospital and 1d. to Gilbert and his heirs. For this John gave him 16 marks. CLAYDON (Bottle). Geoffrey Scott of Claindun acknowledged that he owes his lord Ralph Sanz avair 3 marks of silver for which he was impleaded in the King's court at Wallingford, and arranges to pay the same by certain instalments, in default of which the whole of the land he holds in Botle Cleidun is to revert to the said Ralph. 8 Hen. III.

Ralph de Watlington, formerly prior, with the assent of R. abbot of St. Alban's , and the unanimous consent of all his brethren, gives and assigns to the convent of Wallingford the rents received from the abbot of Reading or the chamberlain of the same in recompense for certain land, and also other bequests in Wallingford and elsewhere. (c. 1270-78.) [Mutilated.]

William Gurmund of W⟨allingford⟩ grants to the sacristan of W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms, to provide 3 lamps and 6 candles (each of three pounds) annually, and at least two candles and three lamps at every service, in honour of the blessed Virgin, 13/2 in quit-rents in W⟨allingford⟩ and C⟨lapcote⟩ . Wm. abbot of S. Alban’s , and Th. prior of W⟨allingford⟩ seal the charter with Wm. Gurmund. ERLEYA . Judgment given by the prior of Barnewell and the chancellor of Canterbury in a cause delegated by the pope to them to hear between the prior and convent of Wallingford and sir Henry de Erleya, kt., and H. his chaplain, concerning the right to the tithes of Erleya; heard in the great church of Wallingford, the Thursday next after the feast of the translation of St. Thomas, 20 Hen. III.

Richard, the son of Simeon Guremund of Wallingford , grants to William de Watlington, provost, for 6 marks, a tenement in a lane called AEdmundes Lane, with a piece of curtilage in the parish of St. Mary the Greater, Wallingford; also a tenement in the parish of St. Leonard. (c. 1250-60.)

Richard de Brithtewell grants to the priory of Wallingford in frankalmoigne a certain stone house in the parish of St. Mary ...? (c. 1250.) [Mutilated.]

Holy Trinity, Wallingford.. John Huberd of W⟨allingford⟩ grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms a messuage in Symeones Lane, in the parish of Holy Trinity, between the messuage of Geoffrey the carpenter , and that late of Hugh the miller , for which the monks used to pay him 4d. Agnes, daughter of Robert the miller of Moulesford , grants to Richard her brother a messuage with a curtilage in Moulesford, paying annually to the chief lord of Moulesford 6d. and to Agnes one clove; for this grant the said Richard gave to Agnes 20s. (c. 1260.)

Holy Trinity, Wallingford.. John Ferarius of W⟨allingford⟩ grants to Henry of Yaunewith , for 14/- already paid, a messuage in the parish of Holy Trinity, W⟨allingford⟩ , between Hubert Hatfeld ’s messuage on the north ... Rent: 10d. to the lord of the fee (i.e. to the chamberlain of Holy Trinity) and 1d. to John and his heirs. Aston Rowant (Oxon.). Hugh son of Robert of Chalkford , grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms one acre of arable land in C⟨halkford⟩ in Holewellefurlong. For this sir Ralph of Watlington prior of W⟨allingford⟩ gave him [7/- or 10/-]. Geoffrey son of Robert de aula grants to W⟨allingford⟩ 5 acres of land with meadow lying between the land of Kuth his brother and the land of Hubert of Hethfeld , paying 6d. to the lord of the fee. Also with his body he grants to them in free alms a messuage between the house of William Barat and that of Ralph Cruday . Rent: ½d. to the Hospital of St. John, 1d. to Eustace Clement and his heirs, 2/- to the priory of W⟨allingford⟩ .
