BUCKBY (Long). Particulars of a parcel of lands and possessions of the manor of Long Buckebye, belonging to the Queen, antiently part of the duchy of Lancaster, formerly in the tenure of Roger Carrell or his assigns by lease from the duchy, of which lease 8 years were unexpired in 1602.

Letters patent of K. James I, dated at Westminster, 1 Sept., 10 of his reign, granting a licence of alienation to Dabridgcourt Belcher, esq., Elizabeth his wife, and Christiana Belcher, widow, for a messuage, garden, &c., in Guilsborrowe, to Richard and William Gardner .

Indenture made between (1) Sir Pexall Brocas of Stevington, Hampshire; (2) Edmond Brockett of Luton, Bedfordshire, professor of Divinity; George Sculler and William Cuffley of Kingesley, and Raphe Gardiner of Sherborne St John, yeoman, and (3) Sir Thomas Thinn of Longleate, Wiltshire, and Sir Richard Gifforde of Kingsonborne, Hampshire, covenant by (1) to (2) of the manor of Stevington, Hampshire; the advowson of the church of Stevington; the manor of North Farham alias Roch Court , Hampshire; the manor of Broxheade alias Brocasheade, Hampshire; the manor of Parva Weldonne alias Petit Weldonn, Northamptonshire; lands and tenements in Little Brickhill and Soggnall, and the bailiwick, custody and keeping of his Majesty's buckhounds, (signed by Pexall Brocas).

Bargain and sale by Thomas Taylor of Yardley, Hertfordshire, esq, to Sir Pexall Brocas of Little Brickehill, Buckinghamshire, of two parts in twelve parts to be divided of the manors of North Fareham, Roch Court, Quabbe, Mayles, Proulingworth, , Wickham and Titchfield, Hampshire, and of one part in twelve parts to be divided of the manor of Petite Weldon and the bailiwick of the keeping of the Royal Buckhounds [Northamptonshire?], and of the manor or manors of Bradenstocke cum Clacke and Lineham, Wiltshire (signed and sealed by Taylor) (Endorsement: note of enrolment on the dorse of the Close Rolls on 2 Jan. 1626).

I, between Edmund Brockett, S.T.P., George Scullard, gent., William Cufley and Ralph Gardener, querents, and Sir Pexall Brocas, deforciant, concerning the manors of Steventon, North Fareham alias Roche Court, and Broxhead alias Brocashed, Hampshire; Little Weldon alias Petit Weldon, Northamptonshire; the bailiwick and keeping of the King's Buckhounds; the manors of Little Brickhill & Bagnall.

3 Feb. ⟨1619.⟩ Proceedings in an Exchequer case between William Cartwright , Richard Chaplin , Richard Robinson , on behalf of the parish of Norton, complainants, and William Warde, clerk, defendant. Defendant had procured a decree from the Barons that he should receive all tithes and offerings in the parish of N⟨orton⟩ until the parishioners recovered them by due process of law (which they were at the time attempting). They refused to pay and he prosecuted them for contempt. The parishioners alleged an elaborate ‘modus decimandi’, except for Ch. Ch. and their tenants who compounded with the owners of the tithe. Judgment for William Warde , who is to restore all that he had received beyond the ‘modus’, but may first subtract his costs. There is a note that this will be found ‘in libro ordinac’ sive decret’ de termino S. Hillarii a° 17 James f. 174 Scacc’ remanent’ et ibidem in custodia rememoratoris Regis existent’.
