WHITBY (Abbey of). Grant by the Crown to William, lord Ewre of the reversion of all the possessions contained in a lease from the Crown granted, by letters patent of 28 March, 3 Elizabeth, to Christopher Pykarde , by letters patent of 28 March 3 Eliz., of the chapel of Newton, in Cleveland under Oversbury, part of the rectory of Ingleby, and late belonging to the monastery of Whitby, for 21 years, at an annual rent of 33s. 4d.; in exchange for certain lands granted by the said lord Ewre. Dated 27 July, 13 Q. Elizabeth.

Lease from the court of exchequer, dated 5 July, 36 Q. Elizabeth, granting to Richard Manian , James Man and Thomas Man for their lives a messuage and four bovates of land lying in Ormesby, late of the monastery of Giseburn, at an annual rent of 37s.

Plenary indulgence granted to ... Bekwit (?) and Alice his wife by Robert, minister of the house of St. Robert near Knaresburgh . Dated 1503. (Hepdenstall's name has neen inserted in the place of the one erased.)

Grant from John, prior of the Carthusiens of York , to sir John Hodghsone, chaplain, and his parents John and Joan , his brother and sister sir Thomas and Dorothy Hodgsone , sir John Plesance , and William Hodghsone , of the right of participation in the prayers of the convent during life and commemoration after death. Dated on the feast of St. John, evang., 1520.

Bond entered into by George Dayll of Semer , John Witwill, esq. and Richard Hynderwth , yeomen in a sum of £10 to keep the covenants of a certain lease made 2 May, 25 Hen. VIII, between the said George and Elizabeth Lord, prioress of Wilberfosse . Dated 2 May, 25 Hen. VIII.

CALVERLEY. John Symson of Pudsey, son and heir of William Symson , late of the same, grants and quit-claims to Robert Symson his brother all his messuages, lands, and tenements, within the parish of Calverley. Dated at Pudsey, 22 Oct., 4 Hen. VIII.

HOWELL. Bond given by William Woodroif of Howell, co. York, gentleman, to the dean and canons of Ch. Ch. in £60, for the performance of covenants in a pair of indentures. Dated 28 June, 1 Ed. VI.

William Brerehaugh, clerk, rector of Langwath, co. Derby, and Hugh Brerehaugh of Bassyngham, co. Lincoln, husbandman, appoint Alan Brerehaugh of Newerk, co. Notts, their brother, their attorney to receive for them from the heirs, executors, &c. of Richard Brerehaugh moneys owing them under a bond and last will of Esota Brerhaugh, late wife of William Bre of Skypton in Craven, co. NORMANBY. Institution of sir Edmund Baynes to the church of Normanby, vacant by the death of Thomas Capleman , on the presentation of William Romsden of Lousby and Richard Vavasoure of Copmanthorp . Dated 27 Sept., 38 Hen. VIII, 1546.

FARMANDBY, ESTHALGARTH, THORNETON, ELLERBURNE, PYKERING, and THURKYLBY. Indenture made 15 December, 20 Henry VII, between sir Edward Hastyngs, kt., lord des Hastings and Hungerford, son and heir of sir William Hastyngs, kt., late lord de Hastyngs , deceased, sir Thomas Frowyk, kt., chief justice, and Thomas Jakes , of the one part, and Geoffrey Symeon, dean of St. George's, Windsor , and the canons of the same, of the other part, reciting the foundation of a chantry by the said William lord Hastyngs for the souls of himself and Katherine his wife and others in the chapel of St. George's, Windsor, and endowing the same with lands of the annual value of £20. but because the specified land do not amount to £20 per annum in Hil. term 17 Henry VII, but only to £18 6., the said Edward now gives an annual rent charge of 35s. from his manor of Alberston Yorkshire, for the said purposes; and Frowyk and Jakes appoint John Hastyngs, gent., and Ralph Crawcetone their attorneys to give him seisin. Inquisition taken on the death of Robert Tailler son and heir of John Tailler at Rothwell, dated 7 April 3 Elizabeth. Held lands at Lofthouse in Rothwele, for which he paid 10s. yearly to two almshouses at Leeds. His heirs are his three sisters, Sibella, Elizabeth and Margaret).
