LEICESTER (Abbey of St. Mary Pre). Indenture made 16 August, 28 Hen. VIII, by which John, the abbot, and convent of the monastery of our Lady in the medows of Leicester, grant to Robert Grenwod of Sigresham a messuage and 2 yards of land in the town and fields of Sigresham for 31 years at an annual rent of 30s. 4d.

GUILSBOROUGH. Letters patent of Queen Elizabeth, dated at Westminster, June 20th, and 41st year of her reign, granting a licence of alienation to Richard , William , and Henry Gardner , for two virgates of land in Gilsborowe, late parcel of the possessions of William Belcher, esq., and held of the crown in capite.

The Hall Tenement. John Tresham , Thomas Stafford , and Thomas Halle , grant to Thomas Emson, esq., John Dey, clerk, John Chauncy , Robert Chauntrell , and Robert Skypton , all their lands in Newenham, Daventre, and Drayton. To hold the same for the uses declared in the last will of the said Thomas Halle . 20 Oct. ⟨1507.⟩

An acknowledgment by John, bishop of Lincoln , of the receipt of 8s. of the prior of Daventry, by the name of an annual pension, ending Michaelmas last, for the appropriation of the churches of Daventry, Staverton, West Haddon, and Norton [as MS. Ch. Northants. Daventry 101] for 21s. 8d., dated 27 Jan., .. Hen. VII(?). [Almost entirely illegible.] .

Thrupp. Thomas Maydewell of Northampton, shoemaker, has received 5/- of annual rent from Thomas Ilston, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ for land in Throp. [Mutilated.] ⟨3 May 1500.⟩

BROCKHOLLE. Bond in £25 given by Robert Skypton of Brockholle, yeoman, to Thomas Ilstori, prior of Daventr', payable on the feast of the nativity of our Lord following the date of these presents. Dated at Daventr', 16 May, 3 Hen. VIII.

King Henry VIII, by letters sealed, confirms the union and incorporation of the churches or chapels of Hedyngton, Merston, Byndesey, Churchill, Frytewell, Ellsfylde, Wornall, Oclee, Bryll, Borstall, Overwinchindon, Fallewysley, Great [Preston] and Little Preston, Welton, West Haddon, Stratton, Norton, Coldeassheby, Daventre, Throppe, Throppe-Mondewell, Foxston, Stalforde, Byssebroke, Chycheley, Newporte Paynell, Ascewodde, Wyllyn, Sandeforde, Wodde pery, Douton basset, Ragdale, Aston, Bromyngham, Rudeby and Wettwange, in Lincoln, Lichfield, and York dioceses; also annual portions from the churches or parishes of St. Giles without the walls of Oxford, Fulthorn, Beckeley, Lovyngham, Uppelamborn, and Sonyngwell, in the dioceses of Lincoln and Salisbury, formerly belonging to the suppressed monasteries of St. Frideswide, Tyckford, Littlemore, and Canwall; made by Thomas Crumwell, K.G., to King Henry VIII's college in Oxford. Thrupp. Henry Archer, clerk, vicar of the church of M[an]devil by Throp is bound to Thomas Ilston, prior, &c., of D⟨aventry⟩ in £4 to be paid at Michaelmas, if he does not pay 6/8 a year at Michaelmas. 30 January ⟨1504.⟩

The book was made as a ‘Boke of Requests’, and shows that Ch. Ch. were claiming about £70 from these properties.

Mr. John Oliver, Doctor of Law, dean of King Henry the Eighth’s college etc. lease to John Parker, yeoman for 60 years, all their holding in Welton (Northants.), i.e. including a close, arable land and meadow ground in D⟨aventry⟩ , which Richard Chauntrell of Welton now holds. Rent: 41/- and 2 capons at the Annunciation and Michaelmas. 32 Henry VIII.

Indenture by which the King grants D⟨aventry⟩ to Richard Andrews Esq., for 21 years, in accordance with a lease from King Henry the Eighths’ College for 60 years and Rent: £86/13/4. 6 Sept. ⟨1545.⟩

WIKEDIVE. Part of a roll of a law-plea concerning an annual pension of 23s. 4d., the third part of the tithes of Wykedyve, retained by Robert Lyndeley, parson of the same church, the same being due to the abbot of Oseney. (c. 1505)
