LYDNEY. Bond given by Thomas Gethinge alias Marbull of Hereford, yeoman, to the dean and chapter of Hereford, in a sum of 40 marks to keep the condition of certain indentures concerning a lease of the parsonage of Lydney. Dated 15 January, 38 Hen. VIII.

Indenture made 38 Hen. VIII, by which the 15 January, dean and chapter of Hereford demise to Thomas Gethinge, otherwise Merbull, of Hereford , their parsonage of Ledeney and chapel of St. Brevell, for 29 years, at an annual rent of £16 6s. 8d.

Indenture made 18 Dec., 3 Elizabeth, by which the dean and chapter of Hereford, in consideration of the sum of £10, demise unto Roger Brougham their parsonage of Lydney and the chapel of St. Brevell's for 60 years, paying annually £16 6s. 8d.

Letters patent of William Grevell, sergeant at law, and Walter Rowdone , reciting a licence of Henry VII dated the 12 March ’anno regni sui decimo’ [nono] to themselves, and a certain ... [M]ordaunt, kt., and granting the advowson of the church of Wottone under Egge (Gloucs.) to Tewkesbury. 12 July ⟨1505.⟩

The book was made as a ‘Boke of Requests’, and shows that Ch. Ch. were claiming about £70 from these properties.

Transcript of lease by Ch. Ch. to William Bankes, of Hatfield Brodoke (Essex) , of the parsonage of Thornbury, which Tewksbury (dissolved 21 Nov. 27 Hen. VIII) leased to Nicholas Pycher and Robert Pycher for their lives for £27/3/4 a year, for 60 years. Rent: the same. 4 Nov. 1551.

Letters patent of Robert Johnson, bachelor of laws, official of the bishop of Worcester , stating that at the request of Richard Marshall, S.T.P., dean of Oxford , he caused the Worcester episcopal archives to be searched on 14 Jan. 1555, by Wm. Warmsey, notary public, who found: 4 ⟨July or August⟩ 1555.

• (i) Ordination of Silvester, bp. of Worcester , for the churches of Wotton and Preston-upon-Stour, appropriated to the abbey of Tewkesbury, assessing the church at £34, and providing for pensions from Wotton of 13/- to the bishop, 6/8 to the Dean and chapter, ¼ to the archdeacon, and from Preston 7/-, ¾, and ¼ respectively. Dated 15 April, 1555.
• (ii) License of Henry VII to Sir John Mordaunt, kt., William Grevill, sergeant-at-law, and Walter Rowdon , to grant the advowson of Wotton to Tewksbury. Dated 12 May (rectius 12 March), 1497.
• (iii) Letters patent of Maurice lord Berkeley, proclaiming the recovery of right against him in the advowson. Dated 7 July, 1504.
• (iv) Confirmation by the prior &c. of S. Mary’s, Worcester, 3 May, 1555.
