The collection catalogue in 1878 comprised MSS. Ch. Leics. 1-26 and Rolls Leics. 1, of unrecorded provenance. MS. Ch. Leics. 4 is identifiable in the collection of Ralph Thoresby (described more fully in the collection overview for Yorkshire).

MSS. Ch. Leics. 27-120 and Rolls Leics. 2 are later accessions from a variety of sources.
