Process in a cause before the official of the bishop of Norwich, between the prior and convent of the Holy Trinity, Norwich, as appropriators of St. Saviour's church, Norwich, of the one part, and Richard Sifteferthyng , Joan his wife, Richard Threschere , and Alice his wife, of the other part, for subtraction of tithes. Dated 12 Dec., 1340.

NORWICH (City of). Inrolment of charters (21), being grants to the church of St. Mary Unbrent (really "combuste"), Norwich. [c. 1450] .

(a) Grant of an annual rent of 12d. to the church of St. Mary Unbrent in Fybryggate. (Mutilated.)

(b) Will of Simon Swyne of the parish of St. Mary Unbrent , to be buried in the churchyard. Proved 1274.

(c) Cecilia, formerly wife of Simon Swyne with the consent of Roger de Heningham her now husband, sells to Walter de Sancta Fide, chaplain, and his heirs, a certain chamber at the head of her house with a court adjoining, which abuts upon the land of Simon Rusto .

(d) John, son of master Andrew de Conteshal , with the assent of Agatha his mother, and the executors of the will of his father, grants to John de Banningham for 40s. silver the whole of a messuage, with houses and trees, which were formerly Bartholomew's, the rector of the church of St. Mary Brent ["Combuste"] , in the same parish. Witnesses William de Donewic , Simon le Paumere , Henry de Helesdone , and William de Chalmere, then bailiff of Norwich . [c. 1272]

(e) Henry le Barker, of St. Mary Brent , and Margaret his wife, sell to Nicholas de Kerebrok, clerk, and Beatrice daughter of the said Henry and Margaret, a plot of ground in their court with a building and the half of a well in the said court, lying between the land and tenement of the rector of St. Mary's aforesaid. Dated on the feast of St. Mark, evangelist, 32 Ed. I, in the time of William Butt , John de Thiristone , Peter de Bumstede , and John de Morlee , then bailiffs of Norwich.

(f) Henry le Barker and Margaret his wife sell to Nicholas de Kerbrok, clerk, all their tenements with edifices in the parishes of St. Saviour and St. Mary Brent, Norwich. Dated at Norwich the Wednesday next before the feast of the annunciation of the Lord ("annumciationi Dominicae"), 35 Ed. I, in the time of Alexander le Sarteryn , William Bateman , Geoffrey Kempe and Robert de Wilby , then bailiffs of Norwich.

(g) Richard, son of Walter the priest of St. Saviour's , grants to William de Donewyc' and his heirs for 4s. 6d. a certain piece of ground with buildings, containing in length 26 ft. and in breadth 23½ ft., lying between the churchyard of St. Saviour on the north, and the land of Cecilia, mother of the said Walter, on the south, and abuts on the land of the said Cecilia and Simon Pirimi , for 4s. 6d., paid beforehand; to hold the same at an annual rent of 1½d. (h) John de Todenham and Margery his wife sell to Edmund Cosyn and Cecilia his wife 7s. of annual rent, arising out of a messuage in the parish of St. Saviour's in Fibrigate, between a messuage of Roger de Boton on the south, and a messuage of William de Hethill on the north, and abutting on the King's highway on the west, and upon a messuage formerly Henry de Hevyngham on the east. Dated at Norwich the Monday on the feast of St. George.

(i) William de Donewic ', for the health of his soul, and Katherine his wife, and for the souls of Milisent formerly his wife, &c., grants to the church of St. Mary Brent of Fibrigate in frankalmoigne, 12d. annual rent, which Hugh de Gresham was accustomed to pay to him for a certain messuage situated in the parish of St. Saviour's in Fibrigate.

(k) Hugh de Gresham grants to Ralph de Neuton, chaplain, one messuage in the parish of St. Saviour's, Norwich, in Fibrigate, between the churchyard of St. Saviour's on the north, and his own land on the south, and one head abuts on the land formerly master William de Worstede 's on the east, and another on the messuage of Peter le Parcheminer on the west, paying annually to the church of St. Saviour's 1½d and to the church of St. Mary Brent 12d.

(m) Ralph de Neuton, chaplain, grants to Osbert his servant, and Beatrice his wife, one messuage in Norwich, which lies in the parish of St. Saviour's in Fibrigate (k), paying annually to the church of St. Saviour's 1½d., and to the church of St. Mary Unbrent 12d.

(o) Osbert de Rynglond and Beatrice de Neuton his wife grant to Walter de Sancta Fide, chaplain, rector of the church of St. Mary Brent, Norwich , all their right and claim in one messuage in the parish of St. Saviour. For this concession the said Walter gave 3s.

(p) Humphrey, son of Seman, the shoemaker , quit-claims to Ralph, the priest of St. Mary Brent , for half a mark, his whole right in a messuage with its appurtenances, in the said parish of St. Mary Brent.

(q) Randal, son of Gunnilda Gemmes , quit-claims to Ralph, rector of the church of St. Mary Brent , all right in a messuage lying between the way which leads to the said church of St. Mary's and a messuage of the said Ralph, and abuts upon a messuage of Henry, son of the priest, towards the west, and the churchyard of St. Mary's on the east.

(r) Alice, daughter of Bertholomew, formerly rector of St. Mary Brent , quit-claims to Ralph de Neuton, chaplain, for his life and after his death to the aforesaid church of St. Mary, all right in the messuage described (q), but said to abut on the messuage of John son of the priest.

(s) Nicholas de Ingham grants to Ralph, rector of the church of St. Mary Brent , the whole of that piece of land with appurtenances which was formerly Richard le Komyn 's, in Fybryggate, between the land of William Gyssinge ' on the south, and a messuage of Philip le Burgellum on the north, paying annually to him and his heirs one penny. Witn. Hugh the clerk , Peter But , Henry de Heylesdon , and Roger de Sperdeston then bailiffs of Norwich. [1261]

(t) Nicholas de Ingham grants to the church of St. Mary Brent of Fibriggate one penny of annual rent which Ralph, rector of the said church, was accustomed to pay him, as (s), described as having the land of Thomas Peswyke on the north.

(u) John de Fornesett called 'Le Schirmischure' grants to William Albon, citizen of Norwich , one plot of land in the parish of St. Mary Brent, between a messuage of Reginald the tailor on the one part and a messuage of Hugh le Stotere on the other. Dated 31 Ed. I [1303]. Witn. Geoffrey of Norwich , John de Thurstone , John le Graunt and Robert de Lophem , then bailiffs.

(v) William Albone of Norwich quit-claims to sir Robert de Sempyngham, parson of the church of St. Mary Brent , and his successors in the said church, for the soul of his wife Mabel all his right in one plot of ground which is held in fee of the said church and formerly acquired by him from John de Forneset called 'le Skirmeshure' of Norwich . Dated, 4 Edw. fil. Edw. in the time of John de Morle , Hugh de Dunston , Peter de Basynghere and Roger de Sthlon , bailiffs. [1310] (u).
