Richard Glen of Leicester grants to Richard de Rothewell of Leicester one messuage with appurtenances in Belegravegate, Leicester, situated between a tenement of Roger de Gretham and the tenement of Richard de Glen , paying annually after the expiration of 16 years 10s. Scalford, co. Leics. William, prior &c., of D⟨aventry⟩ grant that since Richard de Assheby lately granted to a certain Hugh de Bronage and Mary his wife a messuage in Scaldeford called ‘Codyngton place’, which a certain Roger de Codyngton once took from Peter, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ , from Monday after Easter 17 Ed. III [14 April 1343] for 60 years, the said Hugh and Mary shall hold it for the remainder of that term and for a further 10 years. Rent: 1/6. Given at D⟨aventry⟩ . ⟨24 July 1393.⟩

Lubenham [Leics.]. Promulgation of a sentence of the dean of arches concerning the tithes due to D⟨aventry⟩ from Hugh Poer ’s fee in Lubenham. Given at London. [Mutilated and much rubbed.] ⟨26 July 1317.⟩

• (i) The archdeacon of Leicester to the abbot of St. James’, Northampton, acknowledging the receipt of a writ (dated 7 March, 1320), ordering him to cite Thomas de Wolwardington, rector of L⟨ubenahm⟩ , on the fifth court-day after the Sunday on which is sung ‘Jubilate’ [27 April.] to appear at St. Sepulchre’s, Northampton, to answer to D⟨aventry⟩ . Given at Leicester. 5 April 1320.
• (ii) The dean of Gertr’ [Gartree] to the same, acknowledging a similar writ (dated 6 Oct. 1322): day of appearance to be the third court-day after November 2. Given at Bidlisdone [Billesdon] 30 Oct. 1322.
• (iii) The same to the same acknowledging a similar writ (dated 5 Dec. 1322): day of appearance to be the next court-day after March 12. Given at Foxton, 26 Feb. 1323.
• (iv) The same to the same: citation for fourth court-day after November 30 (writ dated ‘5 Non. Nov.’ 1322). Given at Billesdon, 24 Nov. 1322.
• (v) The same to the same: citation for the court-day after the Sunday on which is sung ‘quasi modo geniti’ [3 April.] (writ dated 14 March 1323). Given at Billisdone, 22 March 1323.

• (i) The official of the Court of Canterbury orders the dean of Gertr’ to cite Th. de W., in a cause with D⟨aventry⟩ , concerning all the tithes of the fee of Hugh Poer in L⟨ubenham⟩, to appear on the next court-day after 24 June, in St. Mary’s, Aldermarichurch, London. Given at Keselingbury.
• (ii) Royal writ to the official of Canterbury prohibiting the Courts Christian from hearing the case until an assize Utrum had determined whether a fourth part of the advowson belonged to the King or the monks. Given at Cowyk. [Yorks.]. 10 June ⟨1323.⟩
• (iii) Another royal writ. [Much torn.]
• (iv) Fragment of a mandate from the abbot of St. James’, Northampton.

Thrupp. Inspeximus and confirmation of the following documents by John, Bishop of Lincoln . 14 March 1311.

• (i) Richard, bishop of Lincoln grants the churches of Scaldeford, Bissebrok, and Southrop to D⟨aventry⟩ (The amount they paid for it is not legible.) Given at Bukkedene, 27 November 1266.
• (ii) Letters of the dean and chapter confirming (1). Given at Lincoln 21 April 1267.
• (iii) Letter of the bishop to the archdeacon of Northampton to give D⟨aventry⟩ corporal possession of the Church. Given at Leicester. 31 March 1286. (The Inspeximus tells us that this was on the death of Robert le Paumer, rector of Throp ). D⟨aventry⟩ instituted as their vicar, John of Daventry, chaplain: it was then found that the tithes were worth (1) of grain 15 marks a year (2) of hay from demesne meadows 8/- (3) of hay from other meadows, (4) of 2 virgates 2 acres pertaining to the Church, with pasture 32/-, (5) All other tithes 3½ marks. The monks are to bear two-thirds of all burdens on the Church, and the vicar one-third.
• (iv) Letters patent of Oliver, bishop of Lincoln to the archdeacon of Northampton to put John of D⟨aventry⟩ in possession. Given at Theyden. 4 May 1286.
• (v) Letters patent of the same (the same date) saying that at the instance of the monks he has written [as in (iv)] to the archdeacon. Given at Storne Park [Lincs.].
