STRETTON (Little). Robert of the Hall of Little Stretton grants to his lord, sir Richard de Harecourt , one piece of land 100 ft. long and 60 ft. wide in Little Stretton; to hold the same according to the custom of the manor, paying 45s. of silver beforehand. Dated on the feast of St. Botulph, 18 Ed. I.

Yvo Eyrik of Great Stretton grants to sir Richard de Harecourt, lord of Boseworth, the half of a house and the whole of a toft which he had of the gift of Peter, son of Adam le Franceys , in Great Stretton. (c. 1270-80.)

Harborough, Market [Leics.]. Thomas son of Ivo de H⟨arborough⟩ grants to D⟨aventry⟩ in free alms for the daily celebration of a mass in the chapel of S. Mary 12d. rent from a tenement which he held in Haverberg. For this grant the monks gave him 8/-. Sandford In the church of S. Martin’s, Leicester, before the prior of S. Mary’s, Leicester, the archdeacon of Leicester, and the bishop of Lincoln, Master Hugh Hamelin seeks a postponement to allow him time to consider the process, of which he has obtained a copy. The case is adjourned till the morrow of All Souls, when the parties are to appear again in the same place. 1268. ⟨4 Oct.⟩

Sandford An act of court at Leicester in an appeal between Master Hugh Hamelin and the prior &c. of D⟨aventry⟩ , concerning the tithes of the church of Scandeford. ⟨1268.⟩

John Neel grants to D⟨aventry⟩ in free-alms 1½ acres of land in D⟨aventry⟩ , lying over Fischwerehul between the prior’s land and the Daventry-Norton road. In exchange they have given him a croft called Millewardis croft in D⟨aventry⟩ by the Walton road on the west. They also release to him their right in 5 strips at the head of D⟨aventry⟩ towards Drayton, by the high road to Leicester on the north. Thrupp. Inspeximus and confirmation of the following documents by John, Bishop of Lincoln . 14 March 1311.

• (i) Richard, bishop of Lincoln grants the churches of Scaldeford, Bissebrok, and Southrop to D⟨aventry⟩ (The amount they paid for it is not legible.) Given at Bukkedene, 27 November 1266.
• (ii) Letters of the dean and chapter confirming (1). Given at Lincoln 21 April 1267.
• (iii) Letter of the bishop to the archdeacon of Northampton to give D⟨aventry⟩ corporal possession of the Church. Given at Leicester. 31 March 1286. (The Inspeximus tells us that this was on the death of Robert le Paumer, rector of Throp ). D⟨aventry⟩ instituted as their vicar, John of Daventry, chaplain: it was then found that the tithes were worth (1) of grain 15 marks a year (2) of hay from demesne meadows 8/- (3) of hay from other meadows, (4) of 2 virgates 2 acres pertaining to the Church, with pasture 32/-, (5) All other tithes 3½ marks. The monks are to bear two-thirds of all burdens on the Church, and the vicar one-third.
• (iv) Letters patent of Oliver, bishop of Lincoln to the archdeacon of Northampton to put John of D⟨aventry⟩ in possession. Given at Theyden. 4 May 1286.
• (v) Letters patent of the same (the same date) saying that at the instance of the monks he has written [as in (iv)] to the archdeacon. Given at Storne Park [Lincs.].

Welton. In a case heard before the bishop of Lincoln’s official in the church of All Saints, Northampton, between D⟨aventry⟩ (actor) by master Roger de Bendone their proctor, and John Mallory, lord of Weltone , Symon Tuwe of the same, Robert Ace , Richard le Heir , Robert de Dunstone , Richard Martin , Richard the marshal , Henry son of Wille (sic) of the same (accused) by William de Baddeby, clerk, their proctor, by reason of burials in the chapel of Welton. Previous hearing by bishop of Lincoln at Bostone Stayers. Case postponed to [4 July] in S. Margaret’s, Leicester. ⟨7 June⟩ 1291.

LEICESTER. Proceedings in a matrimonial cause the crust held in the church of St. Martin's, Leicester, before Robert, the official of the archdeacon of Leicester , between Emma, daughter of William fitz Alan of Swineford of the one part, appearing at first by her father and afterward by her uncle John, and Thomas de Dunstil servant of Thomas master of the hospital of Swyneford , of the other part, 1295-6.
