WATLINGTON, Oxon. Judgment given in favour of Oseney by master John Cornwall , and master Robert de Melumer , in a tithe cause] between the abbot and canons of Oseney and Jordan de Hameldene , concerning the tithes of all the moveables which the same Jordan had in the parish of Watlinton, which he claims to be tithe-free on land held under the abbey of Preaux. Dated on the morrow after the synod celebrated about the feast of Michaelmas, 1192.

William, son of Helias de Hettecumbe , grants to the church and canons of Oseney, in frankalmoigne, three acres of land in Watlintone, viz. one acre near Wuestorn under the way, one acre above Ikenild between the two ways, and a croft which is to the east of Ferncroft, near the house of his mother, to hold to him and his heirs, paying annually 1/2 lb. cummin. (c. 1190-1200.) .

A certificate from A[dam], abbot of Evesham , and E., prior of Reading , addressed to W[alter], bp. of Lincoln , concerning a cause of vexation by the canons of Oseney to sir William, knight of Hameldene , relating to the tithes of Wadecumbe, by which they release the said knight from the vexation of the said canons. (1183-84.) .

OXPORD. Hugh Kepeherm grants to the canons of Oseney one foot in breadth of his wall of the land of Hugh Salarius , to erect their wall, as much as they wish, so that it be common both to him and them, to put timber on. (c. 1190-1200.) Witn. John teh provost, etc.

William de Brigia grants to Turald the Cordwainer , his land which Eilwin Hegreford held, which is between the land which was Ralph's, son of Durant , and the ... in fee and heirship, paying annually 16d. and one pound of pepper for all service. For this concession the said Turald gave one besant for recognition and fealty according to the law of the town of Oxford. (c. 1190-1200.) .

OSENEY. Leicestershire. Fragment of a charter of a grant of lands in Twicurs [Twycross]. (c. 1190-1200).

NEWBURGH, Staffordshire. Convention between the abbot and convent of Lilleshull of one part, and Edelina the daughter of Durand the priest of the other, by which the said Edelina in her widowhood gives to the said abbot and convent two messuages in Newburgh, viz. those which her father bought and gave to her. For this grant the said abbot and convent will provide her with 4s. annuity, and two of the servants' loaves and a gallon of beer daily during her life, with a condition that if Roger, son of Stephen her son, outlives her, the rent of 4s. is to be paid to him and to revert to the abbey after his death, (c. 1180-90.) .

SHREWSBURY (Abbey of). Confirmation grant from King Henry II to the church of St. Mary and the blessed apostles Peter and Paul of Shrewsbury, of certain lands, tithes, churches, manors etc. of the gift of earl Roger, [i. e. Roger de Montgomery, earl of Arundel] and many other benefactors. Dated at Brug' [1155.] [Perfect] .

MONTACUTE (Priory of). Appropriation of the churches of Montecute and Cynnok, Sarum diocese by Joscelyne, bp. of Sarum , to the use of the priory of St. Peter of Montacute of the order of Cluny. Dated [1?] March, 32nd year of his episcopate, i. e. 1174 or 1175. [Much rubbed.] .

CROKESDENE (Abbey of). Charter of foundation of Crokesdene Abbey, Staffordshire, by Bertram de Verdon . [c. 1179] .

WESTLEY and FORNHAM. Anselm, the abbot of Bury St Edmunds (St Edmund), grants to Leo and his heirs one toft in the town of Bury St Edmunds (St Edmund), which Holdoger bought of the widow Godgiva and left at his death to Anselm, the land belonging to Hernegrida, etc., and land at Westley of the hall of Fornham (Fornhame) paying annually 4s. to the provost of Fornham (Fornhem); land formerly wood at Chevington (Ceventune). [Anselm, abbot, 1121-48.] [A remarkably fine, perfect and long charter, with many particulars omitted above.] Witnessed, Talebot the prior with all the convent, and 35 others!

HENGRAVE. Anselm, the abbot of St. Edmund, grants to Leo and his heirs the manor of Hengrave (Hemegrede) in fee and heirship, to hold of the altar of St. Edmund and of the sacristan, to pay on the altar each year at stated times 100s., &c. (c. 1130-40.)

NEDHAM. Roger de Bevilers, son of Warren de Bevilers, grants to the hospital of St. Peter without the village of Bury St Edmunds (St. Edmund), in frankalmoigne, two acres of arable land, less one rood, lying in the field of Needham Market (Nedham). (c. 1180-90.)

HENGRAVE, &c. Chirograph by which Hugh, the abbot, and convent of St. Edmund grant and confirm to William, son of Leo, and his heirs after him, the manor of Hengrave (Hemmegredhe); also the whole of the land which his father Leo held in Westley (Westleia) of the hall of Fornham, and land in Cheventona of the hall of Chevington (Cheventona), and land which he held in the Saxhams (Sexham) of the hall of Great Saxham or Little Saxham (Sexham), &c.; paying 110s. for Hengrave (Hemmegredhe), 4s. at the hall of Fornaham for Westleia, 3s. at the hall of Cheventona for Cheventona, and 12d. at the hall of Sexham. HOPETONE, CUNGESTON, and BARTON. Hugh, the abbot, and convent of St. Edmund, grant to Vital and his heirs all the tenures and gifts which abbot O[rding] gave to him, viz. land in Hopton (Hopeton) and Coney Weston (Cungeston), and in Great Barton (Bertune), also a toft in Bury St Edmunds (St. Edmund), subject to certain services. [c. 1160-70.]

Sampson, the abbot of St. Edmund, grants to William Carbonel a certain liberty which is called Infongenethef in his village of Chilton, which is of the fee of Eye, at an annual rent of 1 lb of white incense. (c. 1190-1200)

REDGRAVE. Final concord made at Oxford the Monday next after the octave of the Purification B.V.M. next after Louis, king of France, came to England to St. Thomas, by which William Oligrant quit-claimed to the abbot of St. Edmund all right in 40 acres of land in Redgrave, for which the said abbot gave him 20s. (1180.)
