CLOPCOTE. Alan, son of Amfrid the son of Ruald , grants to the church of Wallingford in frankalmoigne his meadow which was the meadow of his father in Clopcote, lying in the eastern part of the castle before the postern, (c. 1189.) [Printed in the Monasticon, vol. iii. p. 280.]

Clapcote. Geoffrey the Cook of Wareng’ grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms 7 acres of arable land and all his other land in C⟨lapcote⟩ , lying in ’peecam de W.’ on the North, free of all secular service, ’ego enim et heredes mei eam acquietabimus per officium nostrum in coquina’ ... For this gift made for the souls of Brian fitz-Count , his lord, and the lady Matilda his wife, he has received from the monks 60/-, and his son half a mark. Wallingford and Clapcote.. Master Christian of W⟨allingford⟩ , grants to W⟨allingford⟩ in free alms certain lands: (i) ... which Robert son of P...hel’ holds, for 6/6; (ii) ... mill for 4/-; (iii) the other land which Renur the clerk gave to him; (iv) also Walter and Osbert for 2/4; (v) after his death, all his books of the Divine Scriptures. For this they have granted him a daily provision of food and drink for himself [as long as ?] he shall remain a secular, and for his servant according to the provision made for a servant of the priory.
