Leeds.. Alan the clerk of Thornton, vicar of the church of Adel , is bound to the prior of Holy Trinity, York, in 10 marks a year, and if any controversy is moved against them by A. fitz- Hugh de Wit ’, or by Hugh himself, by reason of a charter which the prior &c. asserts they sought (‘inpetraverunt’) from them in the lifetime of A. the archdeacon and rector of Adel, to have the church on the rector’s death, Alan will undertake the action at his own cost.
