St. Leonard’s, Wallingford.. Stephen de Stallis grants to the Hospital of St. John, W⟨allingford⟩ , in free alms, a corner messuage in the parish of St. Leonard’s, by the messuage formerly of Henry of Medford , opposite the messuage of Bartholomew Fryburne within the South Gate of W⟨allingford⟩ . Rent: 12d. to the fee farm of W⟨allingford⟩, and a clove gilly flower to the grantor. Witnesses: Alexander de Stallis, mayor, Richard of Britwalton , master Peter of Benham , William Blawe , Eustace Clem[ent] , John Hynner , Richard Mariot , bailiffs. ⟨c. 1230–c. 1240.⟩ The whole is excellently preserved. In the fold of the parchment at the bottom is, in Wood’s hand: ’Given to me by Dr. Tob: Garbrand a° 1664. Ant: Woode.’ See Life, ed. Clark, ii. 19.
