ELSFIELD. Hugh, son of William de Helsefield , grants to the, church and canons of St. Frideswide in frankalmoigne, with the consent of Philip, his brother and heir, the whole of his land in Oxford near the church of St. Peter in the east, by the east gate of Oxford. Also he grants to them 4 acres of arable land of his lordship in Helsefeld, for the health of his soul, and in remission and redemption of his sins which he has contracted to this present, because of the short payment of tithes for the 2 acres in Longeforlang near the grange of the canons at Elsfeld and another two acres near the acre of Ralph Dispensator . (c. 1190-1200.)
